I sat in the rain again all day today waiting for a black bear. This little one came in again and I decided that since I am out of time that I'd take him as no larger ones have come in during my two weeks of baiting. The Henry did it's job well. At 45 yards the 250 grain flat nose went in the left side two ribs up from the back, broke the off side leg and exited. No bullet recovery but he is small. The problem with taking photos by/of yourself is sometimes you don't get the whole subject.

Congratulations Mike!! Success for both you and the Vintage DR.

Great news!

I've been told time and time again - any bear is a trophy.
Try that Balsamic or Port reduction treatment I noted the other day.
Sear the cleaned and rubbed meat in a super hot pan set it aside, and reduce your Port or Balsamic in the same pan till it's just made it to a light syrup consistency. Then simmer your seared meat in that syrup for about seven minutes a side and serve it rare, dripping with the remaining reduction sauce.

Cheers

Paul that's the one that you did. I haven't sent it off to have the action done as of yet.
