Got a Lefever Arms shotgun, that needs a top lever spring. Serial range 214xx. 12 ga. G grade. My son can make one, but I don't know how to take the broken one out. Anyone help?

You have to take the stock off
Dry fire the action.
Remove the side plates.
Pull out the sear springs from their wooden inlets that under the side plates.
Take the trigger guard screws out.
The front one will be the rear tang screw.
Remove the TG.
Remove the small wood screw that is revealed at the rear of the bottom tang with the trigger guard off.
Remove the top tang screw under the lever
Remove the front trigger plate screw on the bottom of the action.
The trigger guard assembly will now come down and off.
Remove the sears by driving the pin that they pivot on. That pin is thru the upper portion of the action.
No set screw or other retainer.
Once that pin is out and the sears are loose,,the frame will be detatched from the wood.
Carefully remove it so as not to pull any wood that may be stuck to the metal with it.
The Top Lever spring sits verticle on the back side of the frame to the right of center in a small pocket milled into the frame.
It is a plain V spring.
To get it out, you have to remove the Top Lever and cam that bears against it.
There is a large head slotted screw on the underside of the Top lever that holds the cam that operates the AutoSafe and also pushes against the Top Lever Spring.
Remove that large headed screw. Then punch the Top Lever up and out of the frame. The Cam will separated from the TopLever when doing so.
The Spring sits in a shallow pocket in the frame with the bend in the V at the bottom position,,usually that bottom position shows a stake mark in the frame where it was factory installed to secured it.
To then easily get at the spring, the RH hammer can come off.
Punch the Hammer axle from the right hand side towards the left to just clear the RH hammer.
The RH hammer will fall free of the frame.
The RH mainspring will not fly out,,not without some help in slightly compressing it first and then pulling it out! That would be further disassembly...
With the RH hammer out of the way, you can easily work on the Top Lever spring,,removing the old broken one, fitting a new one, etc,
When done just set the RH hammer back into place and lightly tap the axle back in place.
No need to completely remove that axle as it not only pivots the hammers but also connects to the cocking lever upfront betw the frame flats.
