Everyone making stocks today must be using Fisher scrapers. They're an essential tool. However, I have always found the round-end ones to be more useful than the straight-edge ones. As an alternative to the latter, I'd like to recommend something some here may already be aware of. Go to the local Good Will store and rummage among the flatware. Find some heavy table knives, preferably made in USA or Japan ( the Chinese don't use good materials) . Grind them at an angle to make straight-edge scrapers. The heavy handle is a real asset. They can be sharpened with a couple file strokes. You can use them for shaping as well as inletting. These tools aren't my discovery, just something I've found very helpful and want to pass along.

I have always made my wood scrapers from tenon saw blades after they have passed their best, lots of material also the steel is just hard enough not to difficult to cut though hard enough to burnish that all important bur on the cutting edge with a good quality screwdriver shaft.
