Well I snapped my loosing streak and went 1-1-1. One win, One loss, and one tie (remains to be seen if I am the earliest high bidder). The win was a dandy Purdey 12 bore, the loss was a canvas case, and the maybe was an oak and leather Woodward case with accessories. Any wins or losses among the group?

I am no dealer or expert, but it does seem to me that more high condition, older, SxS are coming to market in the UK at reasonable prices. So many pairs were in this auction (44). One of the gems of the sale was Lot 1752, an Alexander Henry "third quality" 12 bore boxlock non-ejector. What beautiful patina and color on the action. .024/.028 walls. It hammered for 1,600 sterling. Did one of us end up with it? Here is a video by Nick Holt on the gun:

You are the WINNER with a noteworthy shotgun

Show us the Purdey or at least give us the item number.

I to bid on a Purdey but it way over estimate. And I struck out on all my other bids, I finished second on a half dozen or more.

Owenjj3;

Was the Purdey lot number 1463?
Posted By: Owenjj3 Re: Holts Nov 2023 - 11/28/23 11:09 PM
Bushveld, I looked at 1463 carefully but chose 1467. I was looking for a lightweight 12 bore and at 6lbs 2oz. this one fit the bill. I suspect that if you walked into Purdey's today and requested a 6lb 2oz 28" sidelock stocked to 14 1/2, Dr. Harlow would chuckle and say, "impossible!" His forebears said "Yes" in 1938 to a Swedish shipping magnate.

I only bid on one Item and won it, a Wm. Moore single barrel percussion rifle case that is for a rifle just a few serial numbers away from my own Wm. Moore rifle. It even came with a leather outer case. Here's to hoping my rifle fits the case, lot A1123. Hammer at my max bid of course.

OwenJJ;

Of the two you picked the best one. .028" barrel wall thickness is remarkable on that gun, not to mention the bore diameters.

You bought that gun for 1/2 of what it was have cost a just a few hunting seasons back.

Another example of the buyers market today was the John Dickson & Son round action lot number 1400 with 28 inch chopper lump barrels with wall thickness of .031.032 that sold for UKPounds 6,500.00---and it is heavier than your Purdey.

A friend bid on several Alex Henry guns, including a stunning matched pair of Henry guns that I would really like to have seen, but he ended winning only a very nice greener that he got a reasonable price. I look forward to seeing that one.

I liked lot 1482 Purdey. I have a hunting buddy who’s outstanding with wood. He’d make that comb repair look so much better. Estimate was 1000 -1500. It sold I think for 3900

When I first looked at the lot I bid on after the auction, it showed a sale at my bid but now I see only the original listing, with no sales price listed. I am not able to see the Sales Results. What am I missing? Have they sent out emails to the winners yet?

They have just posted the realized prices on their site.

LGF, I just received my invoice this afternoon. Good luck on your bid. My max bid was successful on the case so I ended up going 2-1 on my bids. What a great auction. Outstanding quality.

Still no love letter from Holts so presumably someone else is now the proud owner of the Tolley 10 bore.
