Acquired this Belgium built 12g SLE O/U from a local estate sale. Any information appreciated. No maker information on the gun. Appears to have a no.2 barrel, but not with the gun. Photos for identification.

Q would be 1938 proof date probably 1 of a pair, which seems to be a good sign of better quality. Any names on the gun? More pics?

Interesting that it seems to have English tubes in a Belgian gun, the reversal of what often happens.

JNO. HY. ANDREW & CO. LTD. TOLEDO STEEL WORKS SHEFFIELD appears on high grade between the wars doubles of several Liege makers; including Verney-Carron, Jules Bury, Nicolas Lajot, L. Christophe & F. Thonon

It is unclear if the tubes were manufactured in Liege or England.

Ah, bar stock could have been delivered but like Krupp, etc. All steel makers filed a trademark & then licensed a local steel concern to make the bar stock

JNO. HY. ANDREW & CO. LTD. TOLEDO STEEL WORKS SHEFFIELD Barrels on a Belgian gun is a sign of high quality, they are first rate quality and costs a bit more than Krupp in the same period.

A great looking quality gun.

What is the barrel length and overall weight?

Engraving almost looks Austrian

Barrel length: 27.5", total gun weight: 7# 3oz. Choked +0.710 U and +0.689 O.

From what I can see, hammers, ejector hammers, cocking dogs, all gold washed.

Really nice gun. Is there a reason you described it as an O/U?

A very nice and usable gun

AGS, O for one barrel on top as in Over and the other barrel under the top barrel as in , Under.

Just discovered another unique (odd?) feature on this O/U. The front trigger firing the Under barrel is articulated as in it is two piece and hinged so as to allow it to be pushed forward. The pivot pin is in the trigger blade itself? No idea as to the function. Could it be to keep the front trigger from biting the finger on recoil when using the back trigger? Any thoughts? I will post a photo for examination.

All of my Beretta SxS guns have an articulated front trigger. I've always thought that the purpose of it was just as you described. I've never had a problem with recoil hurting my finger, but I guess some do.

Congrats on a nice gun!

Regarding articulated triggers, that is the purpose. I don't have any SxS's with them but avoid the recoil problem by setting my grip for the back trigger and simply reaching forward to the front one when needed. It has worked very well for me on my straight gripped guns.

I can see that now. When first posted, I looked at the pictures in great detail and pictures 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 all resemble a side by side action. I have similar Berettas and Merkels from the period, and they don't seem to have the pronounced action balls with the vertical rise this gun exhibits. There is not a picture of the breech end of the barrels, so I didn't pick up on the orientation.
