Can't make up my mind. Got two picked out at the Southern

If Grant was a side lever I would pick that one. Otherwise best condition with acceptable fit wins.

I think sidelever Grants are absolutely beautiful.

A under lever Lang is very nice as well. If I am lucky I’ll find
my own side lever Grant some day. They are in my bucket list.

Of course, side-lever Woodwards aren't exactly chicken scratch either. Best I can guestimate there were about 10 of them made ----- and mine isn't going to be for sale any time soon! Just to be cute, I put a set of .410 tubes in it and it does nicely for a skeet gun.

Nothing to choose in Brand Value (BV1) among Boss, H&H, Purdey, and Woodward. Grant (along with 16 others) is BV2 (3/4 value of BV1). Do keep in mind that Original Quality (OQ) grade and Current Condition grade are independent of brand name (and BV).

I don't see where the action of the Woodward is mentioned. If it is the 'automatic' underlever hands down the Woodward is the keeper.

As for Rocketman, I have a lot of respect for his knowledge and input to this site but to take a 'best' and pretend it it something different is blasphemy....it was made to be used as it was made.

How is brand value gauged? By the value attached by the buying public in the era when the gun was made or by auction indications today?

Beyond that there is the ergonomic angle. I would venture that a side pedal action like the Grant is easier to use than an underlever, and I am an underlever fancier.

Both are top levers. Both are nice guns. The Woodward is twice the money of the Grant almost.

Have you looked at that YT comparing the five or “best” London SLs? A Grant 16 side lever trumps, to my liking, a 12 but those arcaded actions, T-safeties, top lever Woodwards are difficult to pass on. Kirby has a 16 Purdey on display. Have you seen it?

A later Woodward SxS w/o the "frog eye" tumbler axles is a thing of beauty & especially so if it has that lovely Woodward version of a POW grip. Nothing wrong w/ Grants either but I don't understand the enthusiasm for side levers.

Nope not the Woodward or the Grant, bought a nice 1906 Purdey pigeon gun. It has been re-stocked but nicely done.

Coolest gun I've seen was in 2006 in Cabela's in Sidney. Believe it or not, it was a Woodward with arcaded fences, frog eye cocking indicators, and it was a Side Lever. It shortly disappeared into the wilds of Wyoming. Tom Bryant, remember?
