Can't believe that there aren't parts out there somewhere. But another possibility is that a part from a Miroku-made Charles Daly or other Miroku-made sxs might work.

Back when Browning was preparing to introduce the Cynergy, I was one of a group of writers they invited to South Dakota to test the guns on both clay targets and pheasants. Several of us suggested to the Browning reps that re-introducing the BSS might be a good move. Their response was that all the Miroku employees who'd worked on sxs had retired.

While I have been served pretty well by the two 12 ga. BSS guns I have owned, and have shot the latter of them with heavy duck loads and many target loads for a considerable time (since 2010), I would have to say that your above statement is being overly generous. I have experienced a few problems with mine. The first was that when I bought the gun I now own I found that occasionally the right barrel would not recock upon opening the action completely. I don't think it needed any parts, but an "adjustment" was needed internally. The same gun now has another minor issue. When shooting a round of 100 clays I have to repeatedly press an action pin (axle) back into place, where it works itself out of the right side of the action. I've never experienced these two issues on any other double I've ever owned. I have also shot this gun off face, on the right barrel. Without a shim you can see daylight between the barrel and the breech. A .003" shim takes care of it and puts it back on face just fine. The hook on a BSS cannot be welded and refitted because of an alloy solder that was used in building them, and I really don't care to spend the $$$ to have the pin replaced at this point.

I like the gun, as far as contemporary doubles go, but it is not without weaknesses.

A laughably foolish comment. As the tenth post in 8 years, one might have hoped for something a little wiser.

Western GunParts in Alberta Canada had bought out a lot of Browning obsolete parts. Whether the BSS was in these or not I don't know

Stan,
Some of the BSS's were fitted in that the forend iron pulls the barrels forward to contact the hinge pin, and don.t have the barrel face fitted to the action face, I even have one in 20 Ga, and it seems to work OK, but it sure isn't right. In that your gun has a loose pin, it shouldn't be hard to line ream the pin hole and fit a proper pin. A taper pin reamer and pin ,like was done on a a lot of American guns years ago. I guess one could set the action up and bore the hole out to an appropriate size and fit a straight pin, but the taper would be a lot easier.
Or just clean out the hole and pin and locktite your pin in. Stud and Bearing Locktite. Use the barrels on the action to pull the pin fwd. Locktite can setup fast.

Thank you, Dennis. I noticed a difference over the years so I am assuming that mine has worn to that point. It is one of the ones without a barrel selector and always fires the right barrel first, so it makes sense that would be the barrel that came off face first.

If I'm understanding you, you're saying that fitting of the barrel breeches to the breech face was not a big priority with the BSSs?

Anyway, it is obvious that an oversized replacement pin would fix the issue because a .003" shim on the pin does so. I will be contacting you privately to discuss this more, if agreeable to you.

I may not have been clear about the pin that works out. It is not the hinge pin, but a small pin that goes through the action body towards the rear. I will try loctite, just on the ends though, so as not to lock up some internal parts.

Best to you, SRH

Stan,
I once had a BSS Sporter that would occasionally have the same pin drift out. My remedy was to let it protrude out a bit , then to clean the end and use blue Loctite and press it back in place. It remained in place and didn't move after that.
Hope this helps.

Thank you, Karl. I meant to reply but overlooked it. Good to know that the loctite worked.
