Now that John Gillette has exited the game, are there any options other than Turnbull for quality Bone Charcoal CCH ?
Thanks in advance,
Best Regards,

Try Bill Graham at Nice Old Doubles. He posts here and does a good job of it...Geo

Bill Schwarz does very nice case colors. I've seen a lot of his work including a friend's Boss hammergun.

Lee Shaver of Lamar, MO did a ML Alex Henry lock and other parts for me that were very nice and I thought reasonably priced.

Yep, he gets case color work from other gunsmiths. He also does his own rust bluing and nitre bluing.

Is Bill still working full time? I think I heard that he might not be, but would defer to first-hand information.

If you want "first hand" then don't you need to call him? Asking the forum, by definition, is going to be at least 2nd hand....

He better be because he is my only gunsmith. I haven't taken anything to him since probably 2019 though. He was still going strong then.

I think Bobby told me the other day that he heard Bill has slowed down a lot. Maybe he can confirm that.

I just picked-up a gun from Bill 2 weeks ago. He is working hard. He has taken on an assistant/apprentice.

Thanks, Matt. I appreciate the firsthand info.

I've not tried Bill for case coloring, but he did a fabulous job refitting a barrel to an old take down rifle of mine. Subtle work done expertly. Just picked up the rifle late 2021.
