Good Morning:
I am new to this site and joined as a friend who recently passed requested i help his wife sell a Wilkes Barre Gun Company side by side shotgun. When i searched the gun this forum was one of the first hits. Is anyone familiar with this company and value of the gun? I found all historical information but difficult to ascertain value. She was offered $300.00 by a friend but I asked her to let me try to get some info.
Thank you.
Value is determined by many factors the first two being condition and grade; you'll need to provide more information beginning with a few good pics before we can offer much assistance.
Wilkes-Barre Gun Company made guns for only a few years, starting in the latter 1890s. Several previously successful gunmakers were part of the Wilkes-Barre birth. Their guns came in several grades with the D Grade like the one below being the highest. Workmanship seemed on par with the other better makers of the time.
$300 is awfully low for that gun. Assuming the bores are good with adequate wall thickness, the ribs are intact, it is tight and on face, etc., etc., I would venture to say that the gun is well worth $1000 or more.
It appears that the damascus finish is intact and original and the gun has a high amount of original case color. Her friend is apparently trying to take advantage of her. Tell the fiend to take a hike!
I'm assuming those illustrative pics are of Daryl's gun, not the poster. Clearly Daryl's gun is worth more than $300, but perhaps we need to see pics of the poster's gun prior to throwing out values?
Thank you for comments. The gun she has is not as ornate as photos posted. I have a few jpg photos she sent me but can't seem to post to forum. While an avid hunter I must admit feel a bit over my head with this one. Any help would be appreciated. I will pick up gun this week and be back. Thanks again.
To post pictures on this archaic site one needs the services of a photo hosting site such as Imgur.com

I do not have access/or know how to use that site any chance i can send photos via email to anyone who may be able to offer some insight into the weapon? I realize request a bit unusual but i seem to have managed to get myself stuck in the middle of this trying to help someone out.
Thanks again,
Thank you
