Every 4 boxes or so the left barrel of my Rigby 16 g SLE will fire if I barely touch the trigger and I am trying to determine whether it is the lock itself or if opening and closing the action just isn't resetting the lock all the way on the sear.

It happens with both factory RST and my reloads.

Any thoughts (other than the "send it to the gunsmith"?

Thanks

I could be a weak sear spring or a sear spring that's getting ready to break. Some bit of dirt, wood splinter or a broken off piece of epoxy bedding could be interfering with the sear nose seating. It might be simple. Have you removed the lock to investigate? I wouldn't use the gun until the problem is corrected.

Has it been stripped and cleaned of late? If this is a new problem, sounds like crud could be where it doesn’t belong.

Best,
