I am restoring a 1926 NID 16 gauge. I am doing all the work except I do not have my CCH set up done yet. So, I am thinking about having someone else do the CCH to the receiver for me.

Who would you recommend that can do as close to original early NID CCH? I like the yellows and straws I see on nive NIDs more so than the blues and grays of other guns.

It is a star model field grade with no pitting so pretty straight forward job I would think.

I bought the first NID .410-bore I found that had a full 14-inch length-of-pull. It was pretty well worn, so I had it redone by Doug Turnbull. It looks very nice, but is a bit too shiny --







High condition original guns are a bit more "frosty." These pictures of a high original condition early Field Grade 20-gauge were originally posted by Walter on Shotgunworld.com --

To be correct--double guns do not have receivers--they "receive" nothing--they have FRAMES. Gunter Pfrommer uses a source in New England, Connecticut I thunk, who does a pretty good job of duplication Ithaca colors.

Dave, I assume you mean by "too shiny" the gloss on the wood finish. FWIW, I have a 16 Philly Fox AE 30" that came to me with the wood refinished, and very glossy. I spent some time asking how to best knock back that shine. I ended up doing it myself successfully with Birchwood Casey Stock Sheen and Conditioner. I was a bit surprised at how easy it was to use, very controllable to cut the shine black to whatever level you want.
