Posted By: Bucko Help trying t find year of a sxs hammer gun - 03/07/21 05:43 PM
Folks I have a sxs shotgun with external hammers im using for Cowboy Shooting. Im sure its a low end grade piece as I only paid $300 CAD for it from a reputable gun shop. Im very attached to this piece and would like to have an idea on the date of manufacture of possible Its stamped on the barrel strap as Francotte S Arm Co. Liege and has matching number serial number on receiver, barrel and forearm. The hammers are both riginal with the engravings matching the receiver on both sides.

I know this isnt a vintage treasure piece but can anyone help me decipher possibly how old this is

You will see from the pictures the receiver and forearm metal were case hardened steel and i have included all the proof marks.

Any information would be greatly appreciated The serial number is 15204. I hope the pictures work ok

I believe the lettre annale on the R barrel is a lower case 'q', which would be a 1938 date of proof.
The gun has 2 3/4" chambers and is smokeless powder proved, which was obligatory after 1924.

Cornell Pubs has a 1938 A&F catalog which might show the gun
