Just some ruminations:

Robert E. Lee made the following historical comment which has shaped my life:
. . . Do your duty in all things
. . . You cannot do more
. . . You should never wish to do less

I substitute the word "best" for "duty" these days...it's something which is easier to be understood by this generation.

There are two elements to this life philosophy
. . .- you can't do more- quit beating yourself up over the past - life is that way.
. . .- you should never do less!!! You don't quit!!

Oh...and by the way, as a corollary to the above........ROLL TIDE
ROLL TIDE...ROLL TIDE...ROLL TIDE

That kind of explains why our great pro-2nd Amendment President Donald Trump refuses to concede the election of an anti-gunner, that was won by massive fraud. But quoting a Confederate General is only going to make the Libtards here consider you a scalawag and a racist. Are there still monuments to Lee, or did the BLM folks tear them all down... without getting arrested for destruction of public property?

I'm so glad my Nittany Lions refused the invitation to go to play a bowl game. The way they played, they didn't deserve the honor, any more than someone who won an election by cheating.

Demands for censorship are certainly forthcoming...

Great grandfather'
Grandfather
Grandmother
Father
Stepfather
Mother
Uncles
Aunts
2 brothers
Cousins - who played on the field for Alabama
Nephews;

All graduated from the Capstone.

You can't understand what this meant in our history....you just don't know if you are not south from our generation.

1948 driving through southern Georgia my Mom (a liberal) would comment on burned out farms....."Those are Sherman smokestacks." 12% of the male population dead...the economy a burnt out ruin and relegated to 150 years of approbation and wave the red shirt hatred.

There is still a chip on the shoulder. And now what are the political correctness commissars going to name Fort Bragg?

I don't know. How about Fort George Floyd? I read that the Prime Minister of India is considering changing the name of the country to Cleveland to avoid charges of racism.

All kidding aside, it may not matter. The way things are going, it might be converted to a Socialist re-education interment camp. I'm hearing and seeing a lot of disturbing things that I'd hoped were gone when the Soviet Union collapsed. People quickly forget. Some here actually believe that China stopped the spread of Covid19 at around 85,000 total cases, and the U.S.has the most cases on earth. All they stopped was the truth.

I’ve just watched the footage of one of the Capitol policeman being dragged from the building and severely beaten, possibly the officer who later died. Has there been any progress in holding to account those individuals responsible for the death of the policeman on duty.

Gene, I share your thoughts on excellence, but think that you may not be doing the current generation any favor by substituting "best" for "duty". This is dumbing down, IMO. I could be wrong about that, but consider that a misguided individual could consider their personal "best" a fanatical effort to rid the world of unborn children, as an extreme example. IMHO, "duty" carries with it more of a sense of honor, and responsibility. Gen. Lee understood this, which is why he reluctantly agreed to serve as the commander of the Confederate forces. He was offered the same position for the Union, but could not bring himself to make war against his own beloved Virginia. He felt he had a duty to serve his own.

If you have not, you owe it to yourself to read the fine book, Lee: The Last Years , by Charles Bracelen Flood. In it one can find one of the ultimate examples of honor and integrity, in the life of Lee after the war. He only lived five years after Appomattox, but they were honorable and duty-filled years!

too bad lee and others did not simply refuse to kill their fellow countrymen...and when the tyrant lincoln called for volunteers to invade and conquer, the people would have simply said no...to quote horace greeley, "let the erring sisters go in peace"...

but now, like then, human ego and greed are the drivers of the quest for gub mint power and wealth...this is the great corruptor of mankind...and to quote the bible:

"What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?"
