Curious but what makes you think it was proofed by C & G ? Also why did it need reproofing twice ? Doesn't say if its its an ejector or not , suggest its carefully appraised but a competent person prior to purchase
.
sorry its non ejector , shows 2 sets of birmingham proof marks , nitro proof bnp seems to be the later one . the c& g was just a guess by a freind who looked at it will add a proof mark picture to the link , i know nothing about guns this age thanks for your help .i dont need to buy it given it from a freinds family , value i havent a clue either i just threw it on gunstar in hopes of another over and under swap. www.gunstar.co.uk/agnew-sons-of-exeter-12-bore-side-by-side-12-bore-gauge-side/Shotguns/1239975
it carries a set of 1905-24 era proofs that include the 13/1 marking - that equates to bores at .719 (or thereabouts).
the second set of proofs are from the 1954-89 era (3 TONS PER []"). the reason it was submitted for reproof is revealed by the markings of the later bore sizing at .729.
the bores have been honed to clear them of pitting/damage, and as a result the gun was out of proof. hence, it required reproof to allow it to be sold under english regulations.

600 to 800 gbps
If have never seen this advertised as a selling point for a SxS:
'Orientation Ambidextrous'
thanks for your help guys , dates would make sense as would have came into the family in late 1950,s. not sure where i filled the form Orientation Ambidextrous'in but i guess it was on the gunstar add i filled out .
Realistic private sale UK....circa £200
thanks again for the help guys , dont look like im getting a decent spare over and under for it then
It`s a shame that such guns are now more or less unsellable in the UK now,I think many will end up scrapped as dealers get log jammed with them.
You may do better selling the case and gun separately if the case is of decent quality.
yes 3 other guns were handed in to the police by the same family as the owner of them past away , 2 hammer action shotguns , and a hammer action muzzle loading punt gun , guess they were all scrapped
I can give you a USA value estimate as follows: Brand Value three (BV3), Original Quality grade seven (OQ7), Current Condition level five (CC5). BV3-OQ6-CC5 = $933. OQ7 is a second quality boxlock non-ejector. CC5 = Minor repairs needed or proper restoration accomplished.

Hope that helps.
thanks again i think its worthless over here in the uk by the sounds of it so will more than likely just chuck it in the cabinet , might give it a trip out , on a small shoot day i go out on , i did quite well with it when i tested it out for a really light gun compared to my others
Perfect for many days in the field, only fashion has sidelined them ! You can`t beat a s/s for handling and carrying qualities.
Hello James Tyrrell, it's s lovely little gun and the case is a nice extra. Unfortunately the market has died for side x sides, particularly bottom end non ejectors. I don't see the demand ever returning, but you may find someone willing to pay a couple of hundred pounds or so if all is good with the gun. I would use the gun with pleasure and enjoy it. Regards, mrwmartin
yes it was a freebie so dont cost anything to keep in cabinet
Horrified when I saw the bit about the guns being handed in especially the Punt Gun which would not require a certificate to own and a valuable antique too. Sacrilege to scrap that! Lagopus…..
They were all valuable. Just not to them.

Best,
Ted
do you not require certificate for muzzle loading punt gun ? as there were 2 and the lady who handed them in gave one to another person as i did not think i could keep it on a shotgun certificate , she now has it upstairs in a bedroom cupboard . keeps asking do i want it , the story goes my grandfather shot it whilst not on the punt just lent against a farmers wooden gate , the gate was not latched shut when he shot the shot broke his shoulder , maybe a story maybe the truth never been confirmed . i will get a couple pics of it , hammer action but you have to put a cap thing on it , stands about 6ft tall has a muslin bag of lead balls about the size of a giant marbles also a bag of like shrapnel small nuts bolts nails screws etc . the old tins of black powder i threw away years ago
