There are lots of conversations on here going back for years dealing with Baby Brettons. My take away from all I've read is I don't want to shoot one...Geo
I literally can’t see enough to positively identify the type of gun it is. How are you guys getting Bretton out of this picture?

Best,
Ted

There have been many threads that started out with the notion that a gun was something it later turned out not to be.

The photo is next to useless.

Hi Ted as I stated in my original post it is not my gun I want to get permission from the owner before I post more pictures
As Stated it is a sliding breech u/o gun in the style of a Bretton but it was made in Italy with Italian proofs I couldn't quite make out the Maker on the Barrel (the picture posted) Markus was able to give me that detail so an internet search turned up the information I was looking for I hope to get permission and post some more pictures
skeettx thank you for posting the picture I'm not sure why I couldn't get it to post I have only just started using Imgur and am still learning how to post from there
I had no problems when I used photobucket
A Fabbrica Nazionale d'Armi sliding breech patent here

Though the cavalier projection is all over the place, looks like they were contemplating a top lever version.

The first link doesn’t work.

I wonder how it was different enough from the Bretton patent to allow for an Italian patent? Or, if the patent was simply expired, and guns were produced in Italy? Possibly similar to what happened with the Petrik O/U and the Remington model 32.

Best,
Ted
The first link being offline should be temporary. Even search function isn't currently working, the European patent database returning an error:"Our backend search database is undergoing maintenance. [Sounds like colonoscopy] We expect this to be finished shortly. Please come back soon."

Markus
Welcome to Europe. My experience, anyway.

Best,
Ted
Well it was an Irish patents office page and it is Saturday. Seems to be working now.

Markus

Edit: And offline again.
Since the patent link is a bit temperamental here's the pat in pics.

I see the dates 1952, 53, and 54, and mention of Paris. The Baby Bretton was first produced by Gaucher in the 1920s, if I am not mistaken.

Other then the lever location, it doesn’t seem different than the Bretton. It would be interesting to know what was patently different between the French and Italian guns, but, that said, I won’t be buying either version.

Ted
The Baby Bretton master patent was apparently filed in France in June 1947: https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/c2/4a/a6/a071730445b884/US2598885.pdf

Wonder what took so long?

Maybe the early production wasn't Babies but similar-looking, mechanically different guns based on the patent filed in France November 1933: https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/8f/f8/65/ea30c40f35e9dc/US2087661.pdf

In some versions sort of like an O/U Darne; Probably didn't reload too darn fast:
