Good luck. I find them to be a surly lot.

They’re probably all watching the Wings beating Team M at the moment.
Half way through the third.

Have them ship you a few loaves of Arborg (MB) rye bread to give to your friends. They will be hooked for life like myself.

Ah Canadian Rye bread! I'm hooked on it myself. I brought some home and froze it, but it just wasn't as good down here. Just like maple cookies...Geo

Hahahaha! Few here know that CJO's day job is as a bread baker par excellence! Hard to beat heading over to his shop to talk guns, see some spectacular examples and and sample some of his latest loaf of bread.
A good hockey thread hi-jacked into a bread thread. By Canadians no less. Never thought I’d see the day.

Well, if he was looking for a Blackface Santa Claus, he might want to ask the racist Canadian Liberal left anti-gunner, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau:

I brought 20 loaves of Arborg back to ND one year to freeze. Been bringing it back for 49 years. Make great gifts. We just can't find bread anywhere close to Arborg around here. Their starter/yeast came from Denmark, I think back in the '20's or possibly earlier. The only other factor I can think of is they bake with lard like granny used to do. I asked our local bakers and none use lard. Had a sad misfortune in October when an overly frisky Drathaar crushed three loaves. No big problem though; I just roll into cylinders, bake in toaster oven and dip in melted butter. Will enjoy this evening with Tundra Swan soup.
Trying to figure out where this thread went wrong and all I can come up with is man does not live on hockey alone.

Harden and Huyse Chocolates from Saskatoon.
Never met anyone who didn't like Belgian chocolate, and these are world class.
They aren't "Moose Nose Canadian", more an International flavour, but they are good.
Winnipeg Goldeye.

Interestingly, each of our dogs get one of those for Christmas. Keeps them out of trouble for quite a while.
Here's something you can easily get in Canada but is very difficult to find in the US.

Beer!

Bwahahaha!
Canvasback, beer consumption in the Interlake of Manitoba is down to two brands now. Budweiser leads with 90%, with Molson's Canadian at 10%. This based on the choice of the locals who descend on our cabin and what I see in the coolers in the off-sale establishments termed "motels" and "hotels" in the area. Nary a drop of Old Vienna, Pil, Calgary Stock Ale and our other old favorites can be found on the shelves. Wish I had an explanation.
I think the US can easily trump Canadian beer now. Back in the early 80s, not a chance, but today, we have good beer and lots of it.

Hal, did you try the Bud? Not the same as what you get down there. All big American brands sold up here have been "Canadianized".

As to what's available up in the Interlake.....all I can say is bad coin drives out good. 35 years of heavy duty advertising for Bud, Coors and Miller etc have had an impact.
Seal flippers are considered a marine mammal, so aren't exportable, ......only available to Canadians!!
There can't be Christmas in our parish without rappie pie, with rabbit or chicken but usually a mixture of both.
A while back I became aware of a batch of Narwhal tusks up in Canada that seemed like they'd make a really nicely matched set of steak knife handles, with left overs for other odds and ends. Didn't even dream of touching those with a ten foot pole.
Jeez, I go to work for a few days and all hell breaks loose. The general feel reminds me of the joke
“How do you keep an idiot in suspense........”
...

....

But in all seriousness I was trying to round up something for my wife and as I won’t be back to the great white north until July. A few fellows kindly offered to help right away and I wandered off the thread mentally.

I’m not breaking any international treaties I know of, but I will tell you I wish I could have found a solution for the exceptional high grade Lefever I found up there a half a dozen years ago. One of my most regretful misses. Oh yeah and “Go Pens!”
Not hard to get a gun down there. Just a bit spendy. $300 minimum plus various freight charges.

Narwhal tusks. Now that would be a cool find.

My brother has a polar bear rug the Inuit of Northern Manitoba gave my uncle in some ceremony. Supposedly the biggest one they had shot in a couple years. This was back around the late 1960’s. It’s spectacular. And huge.

Hmm, they aren’t shy at all about the pricing. It’s never in the description, but various ivories and other interesting mammal bone shows up in plain sight as ‘native art’, often cribbage boards.

And, of course, it makes a nice legal and effective personal protection weapon too in England.
