Karl, a very Merry Christmas to you as well.

And to all my friends on this site....Merry Christmas. May Santa bring you what you both need and want!

I need and want a particular bar in wood 16 gauge hammer gun but I don't think Santa knows where it is. I guess I'll just have to help the jolly old fella out!
Posted By: Karl Graebner Re: Merry Christmas! - 12/24/17 03:08 AM
Owen,
Acually I believe the Merkel 1620 is out because Santa knows that I've been eyeing a prewar Churchill 12 bore. I hope he knows that I've been very good this year.
I hope that everyone's wishes come true this Christmas!

Karl, Your excellent behavior has started you down a dangerous path. English guns are addictive and expensive!! Bravo on the Churchill and we look forward to many game-and-gun photos displays featuring the same.
Posted By: Karl Graebner Re: Merry Christmas! - 12/24/17 03:05 PM
Owen,
I've never owned an English gun and thought that I should have one to join the flock. Remember, I said "one"!
I reflect at this time of year to be thankful to have what I really need, in spite of wanting more. Warmth, peace and health to everyone at this time of year.

Merry Xmas to you Karl. I’m excited to hear more about the Churchill! Sidelock or box lock? Are you getting one of the XXV guns? As mentioned above, English guns may be addictive? I am very fond of the ones I own. This season, I have been hunting grouse and quail with an older Holland 16 bore I bought from Kirby Hoyt not too long ago. The gun has only border engraving, some case color and dove tailed 28” barrels, but nevertheless is marked as a ‘Royal’. It’s an old gun before the Royals were assisted openers. The gun weighs 5 lb 13 oz and is a pleasure to carry all day long. With this in mind, and after reading many of your posts, I hope you take the plunge and treat yourself to an English double. I’m guessing you will be very happy with a Churchill, which are very fine guns.

Behold, the Word made flesh

Alive yet fragile in the crèche.

Not a worldly potentate

With diadem upon noble pate;

No outward display of might and power

Yes, a poor girl’s Infant laid in the bower;

A Conception so fundamental and profound

The fulfillment of the law with doctrine sound.

No grandiose formulation difficult to be understood

Just love, compassion, sister- and brotherhood.

The meek and humble take courage for His sake

Secretly, the arrogant and overbearing tremble and quake.

It’s a new game now and we would certainly be remiss

If we did not celebrate the New Covenant with a merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all of you as well!

I'll be cracking a bottle of my own, Vintage, Single Stem, Maple Syrup, distilled on my own arch, for breakfast tomorrow. Slowly distilled, lovingly filtered, and allowed to mellow in the quiet darkness of our pantry.

So rich, the sugar crystals have precipitated, and have grown quite large in the bottle.

Belgian Waffles w/butter. Lemon ricotta pancakes (dusted with powdered sugar) as well.
French press Kopi Luwak to wash them down.

Breakfast here is gonna be restricted to coffee for Queen and I.......... Green Mountain Dark Magic, hot, black, with nothing added. We've got so much food to be served for dinner (that's at 12 noon around he'ah) that we don't need no breakfast. Nor supper, for that matter. blush

Christmas afternoon Ringneck shoot with my number 3 son on a local pond. More like a dove shoot than a duck hunt; we found a bunch, maybe 100 in a hard to get to corner and flushed them.

They came back all afternoon in 5s and 10s. Passing shots only, no decoys. Those little Blackjacks can scat.

I used a Miroku 12 I haven't shot before with Kent bismuth 5s. The combination shot better than I usually do. Son and I got six of them. MERRY CHRISTMAS!...Geo

George,

Sound slike y'all did the blackjacks alright. I have also had great success watching the pond to see if they leave just before dark to roost somewhere else, which they usually do. Then, be there before daylight the next morning and catch them coming back. A Mojo and a few blocks will pull every bunch of them right by you.
