I had picked up a set of barrels in the white from France that I hoped would work on my No. 5 Ideal, but alas they were too far separated in mfg. periods to work. Not too terribly long ago, I realized that they would work on the 314, which already has two sets. The second set was also found in France in the white, and fitted by Kirk Merrington in time for me to chase ruffs for the first time 2 1/2 years ago. The factory barrels were choked improved modified right, and Boston Strangler left. Thing is, they pattern beautifully with my 3/4 oz reloads. So the second set was fitted and opened to cyl. and .007 for ruffs. I use that barrel set a lot.

Now, on to the third set: James (canvasback) and I will be heading to
southern Idaho after we hunt the Nebraska Sandhills this October (any tips / advice would be appreciated), and the bag in Idaho will be quite diverse. Thus I thought that having a set of tubes choked .005 and .015 would be the bees knees. As the gun arrived today at the ACGG member who will be doing the work, it was time to start searching for a case. Jeff's had a hard canvas 3 barrel case at a reasonable price point, but I decided to check e bay. Found this Krieghoff case for a reasonable price, and it will be on the way shortly. Best part? It has room for four sets of tubes.... smile

Wingshooter,
A gun with four sets of barrels choked as you described could do very well for a one gun shooter. If the gun was dynamically similar with all the barrels, it would seem perfect!

You need a fourth set choked full and full so you can get rid of that camo covered thing and hunt turkey properly!

Good thing I wasn't there.

His "Boston Strangler" left barrel sounds tighter than full to me. I wonder how many thousands of constriction that would be.

Well, I guess it's another trip to France coming up soon, qui? :-)

And here I thought you were going to expound on the virtues of drillings....

If memory serves, it's around .048 constriction. Karl, the barrels are nearly identical, and I can tell no difference in the handling of the gun. Maybe the only Ideal in the world with three sets of barrels. smile
