Did Felix Funken ever sign any of his work with only one 'F' and not the characteristic double backed 'F' normally seen on examples of his work. Thanks in advance for all replies.

There is a world of expertise about Browning engravers and engraving on shotgunworld.com Browning lovers subforum.

Many engraving signed by Funken was from his best students. He evalueted the work and when it was good enough he signed.
Marc, greetings from Belgium.

Examples I have seen signed by him had his full last name.

This gun has full last name but not double backed F as in the first example. So far, Shotgun world has not been as helpful as I had hoped. Gun is an FN and not Browning.

Gentlemen,
here in Europe they are known as 'FN-Brownings' or just Brownings.
All made by FN (Fabrique Nationale) - these are original Brownings.
American Rifleman had a good write up on J.M.Browning and how he came to Belgium with his patents after some problems, I believe with Winchester in the U.S., at the time.
Most 'Brownings' are now made in Japan by Miroku, apart from the original, handmade B25 (and, I believe, some new expensive models made by FN in Belgium)
I attach a pic of my 1974 B25 B2 'Special Trap' engraved by R. Bee, sister of P. Bee, one of the better engravers at FN at the time.

Best regards from England

Pictures added. It does appear that the top cross line on the F does extend to both sides of the vertical line, still in my mind questionable.

TWO vertical lines VERY close to each other, a backwards F and an regular F
