Hi folks, finally, after a lot of work, head scratching, tyre kicking the book is available!

I've really enjoyed writing it and I hope that people find it interesting. I've tried to be articulate and clear with my writing.

I am working on trying to get a hard copy options but it is quite difficult but hopefully I will manage to at some point in the future.

I've setup several donation options. Whatever anyone pays I am extremely grateful. All proceeds are going to my young Children for their future.

The place to go is Vintage English Shotguns and their Restoration Shop

Payment options are Paypal and Credit/Debit Card etc. From the book site it just says "PayPal" however when you actually get to the Paypal page you can click a link to use a card for those that don't like or want to use Paypal.

The iBook version I'm really please with. Everyone gets 3 different types to download, and you can have all 3!

I have to manually Process each request at the moment until I work out how to auto complete orders. I'll do it every few hours I'm awake until I work out the details.

All the very best.
Regards,
Tony

Well, it was impossible to just buy it and not take a peak? Tony, I am really impressed. You seemed to have tackled this project with the same gusto you do your restorations. I have hours of reading ahead of me, but what I skimmed, I love. Vic & Dig, you guys are class acts!
Done deal mate....

Cheers,
Great news, Tony. I will send you my order as soon as I am back to a decent internet connection.

Laurence
Please if anyone has installed the iBook version please let me know what you think!

Tony,
I really like the iBook.
It's a top quality unit. It looks to be professionally done.
Thanks again.
Thank you very much.

David Weber has very kindly allowed me to sticky the thread. I would like to thank him very much for supporting me and my family in this way and I hope it promote's my efforts a little more and thus tinkles a few more coppers into the trust fund as a consequence.

Thank you so much to everyone so far that has donated.
Regards,
Tony
Finished reading your new book. I am very pleased with it. Excellent information and well worth both the effort and the cost. Perhaps your found your calling late. Others should read it to see what you can do when you try. Jon
Thanks Jon. Appreciate the feedback!
T
Well, I realised that I cn enhance the book with a revision. From a personal perspetive some forwrd from Davidn Trevallionn who has been very kind to me. Section of reference books which is remise of me becuase it's and important part of what I do, Research.

So without further ado, the new book, for online and PDF is up, please usen your access details. iBook will the new version by the end of the day.

Cheers
T
I've added new sections to the book for those of you tha have kindly donated! Reference books and additional forward from David Trevallion which I was extremely touched by and honoured by frankly!

Thanks you SO much for the support everyone. You don't know what it means to me and my family.

T

It won't be long now and you'll have more versions than McIntosh did of Shotguns and Shooting. ;-)

Good add, the reference section, and CrossedChisles words are spot on!

If it's keeping you from gun projects, maybe bad, otherwise, I'm happy to download an updated version.
That's great I just thought of another process to add! It's going to keep growing.
Cheers Hammer smile
T
I'm adding an two new important sections! Replacing a horrible wooden extension and "Failures and Disappointments" mm anyone think of a better title? It's about things that can go wrong, I thought might be interesting!

Cheers
T
Hi everyone. Something hit me today. I thought that the book could be enriched a bit by talking about the bench! It's the most important room for any gun nut! So I've added a large section on the bench, workshop and essential tools and specialised quipment.

I also realised that there was some important research I had done in the area of colour case hardening and creating a prototype jig for holding actions. I thought this would be of interest!

Lastly a piece on things that can go wrong!

Please do grab the latest version!

Best
Tony
Hi Tony, I want to buy the book, is that Chris with you at Westley ? I presume it is an ebook only, no hardcopy available ? best, Mike
Hi Mike. Yes, Chris, really nice chap!

I'm working on a hard copy with a company calledm www.lulu.com whichn allows you to upload a document and format it online but it is very tricky to use and frankly I gave up. I've created a hardcopy prototype of 26 pages to see what it looks like and it's on the way. If it has worked I will try and do the full book! That'll mean you can order it and they build it and send. Might be too expensive too but we'll see.

So, for now, you get the online version, PDF and the iBook version which is my favourite! smile

Regards,
Tony
Not much of a techie I´m afraid, is the ibook only for apple or can I download it to my PC (windows) or better still Kindle ?
It's apple only frown Sorry. You can get an epub reader on a PC though! But you have the web version which is nice too I think.
Cheers
T
In fact the iBook one isnt updated yet it's being donw now and I'll shout in here when it's live!
Hello everyone. I've added to the book and you are free to download the new version! I realised there was information I could give on:

- The bench! The most important room for the gun smith! Information on essential tools and specialised tools. Explanation and pictures
- Failures and Dissapointments. Things can go wrong. The Clarke project.
- Research - The Colour Case Hardening Jig research. Hopefully interesting information on a Jig and it's results!!

Cheers
T
Hi folks, new versions for the iBook. Now 110MB and not 230MB!! So feel free to download the latest.
Hi guys, I'vem realised I've left a major procedure out and I'm very exicted about adding it! So tomorrow I will start and let everyone know about it when it's done with new versions for everybody.

I'm also VERY please to tell you that there is now very realy chance of me being able to offer a hardcopy verions via a system call www.lulu.com. I have the booke being typset now!

I do hope you get it worked out with Lulu. I've bought a couple of books from them in the past. I would definitely latch onto a print version.
I'm confident after working today with my wizard mate who is shaping up the lulu!!

Keep you posted.
T
Just purchased and have enjoyed "thumbing" through the online version already. I know I'll enjoy a thorough reading. Thank you Tony!
Please take note:

On April 7th Tony Treadwell passed away.

To the best of my knowledge the E-books will still be available and proceeds from their sale will go directly to Tony's family.

Also Tony was in the process of purchasing some advertising from me for his soon (4/10) to be released hard back book.

I had sent him a note and unfortunately he never received it.

I had previously communicated to him that I would be happy to runs his book ads gratis (As I have done for this E-Version). However, he insisted on buying advertising....Tony was a stand up guy and will surely be missed.

For details on purchasing the hard back book go directly to Tony's website here:
http://shop.vintageshotgun.com/index.php/hardback-book/

For more on Tony Treadwell review this link:

Dave,
Can you let us know with a post when the hardcover book is in print and ready for order? The e-book thing just doesn't work for me. Thanks.
Julio is on track, Dave. Website does not yet permit ordering the hardback.

Regards, Tim
Please be patient people, Marie Treadwell is trying to stream line the purchasing system with Lulu........it will happen shortly......(she also has to raise their kids and work and run the farm etc.)......

Dave Weber has nothing to do with the lulu printing and publishing/purchasing system....

I am proof reading the hard copy now for Mrs. Treadwell....

Thank you in Advance for Your Patience.....

Thanks for the update, Doug. We know the book will be worth waiting for.

Fully recognize that Marie Treadwell is grieving, howevermuch Tony's passing was expected, and occupied with events. My sympathy is with her, as is my respect for you for giving such timely help.

Sincerely,
Tim
I have just finished reading and proofing Tony's new hard book for Marie and I have advised her that the book is error free and is of good quality.

The color pictures are wonderful and are up to Tony's standards as he was a masterful photographer as you all know.

The book is 8 1/2 X 11.0, 188 pages hard bound. the hard bound book has all the same information and pictures as the ebook version. It is printed by and shipped from Lulu Enterprises, Inc. Raleigh, North Carolina, U.S.A. --lulu.com

I do not know the finalized price offering and Marie will work that out and open the window for people who wish to purchase this book. Tony's website, vintageshotgun.com links to lulu's website, lulu.com, for ordering and shipping requests, i.e. standard, expedited or snail mail and prices the shipping accordingly depending on the country of destination. Tony's website now shows $75.00 + shipping for the hard cover book and coming soon.

It is a wonderful book with lot's of "hands on" experience spelled out for gun lover's everywhere.

Here are a few pictures of the actual book for your viewing, sorry my photography is not up to Tony's standards.

All proceeds go to Tony's family for his children's education trust.

Best Regards,

Book looks great Doug. Looking forward to ordering and reading my copy. You have my thanks for helping Marie see this project through during an obviously difficult time.
Gentlemen,

With the funeral taking place tomorrow Friday 4-20 @ 12:00 BST, Marie has had a full plate to say the least. I expect she will address the book sales issues after tomorrow. Right now she has a house full of family and friends every waking minute.

Thank you for your patience. Marie is very aware of what needs to be done and wishes to thank all of you for your understanding.

Best Regards,
I read the book, Marie is on the case and it will be available very soon.
It will be worth the wait.
I have a good library, can't wait to add this one to it.
Doug, thank you for proofing and publishing photos of Tony's book. Several years ago my wife used Lulu for a self-published book and the finished product was not very good. I wrote Tony about my wife's experience and suggested to him to learn exactly what Lulu's publishing parameters were. Apparently, Tony did exactly that because the book I see in the pictures looks wonderful, so some much so that when I'm finally paid on some consulting work I finished last month I intend to purchase a hard copy. BTW there'll finally be money for Dave as well, I've just been to broke as of late to purchase much of anything.
Steve
I just went to the web site, but seem to be unable to order several each of the hardbound copy. Is it my lack of computer skill, or is it not yet available?
I thought I bought a book, I paid my money, I got nothing,
I send 2 emails and no reply.

I got think I got ripped off, beware of this book.
The book sounds good but I got nothing

OW, I think you bought the electronic version of the book ...?...The hard copy will not accept payments at this time and does not have an open purchase window.....

Marie Treadwell (Tony's wife) said she dug your email out of Tony's web site and will refund your money.

Marie just advised me that she has asked PayPal to refund your money OW.......and sent you an email as well and asked me to post this for you......

OW-@4:18 MST 5/01/12, Marie just advised your refund is complete according to PayPal.

THANK YOU
I am all set
It's terribly sad to hear about the death of the author, I'm new to the site and have been right thru Tonys website from the link on here and must say I'm impressed, it's one thing to have gathered all this info but hats off to someone who was prepared to share it all too.
I've used one of the tips given out to brown a very old pair of H&H barrels and the results are amazing.
I hope the book becomes available in hard copy as I will buy one ASAP, it looks a fantastic read and source of information.
My thoughts are with Tonys wife and family.
It is without doubt a great loss to the world of shooting.
For all of you impatient ones( including me).
I saw Marie ( Tony's Wife) today and after a little editing she is very hopeful that the book will very soon be available.
Patience, it will be worth it.

I bought the electronic book last week, but I get an error message when I try to download the iBook. The PDF is pretty unwieldy. I wonder if the link is bad for the iBook. From what I've seen, the info is quite useful, but so far have not been able to access it well. I've tried contacting the seller, but no reply. I understand there's been a lot going on in this very sad time, just wonder if anybody has any assistance or helpful hints. Thanks.
Everyone, I think there may be a very small issue now with the iBook. Please be patient. The link is to Tony's email address which obviously now is redundant. Marie (Tony's Widow) does look in on it occasionally and she does sort things out, refunds etc.,.
Great news, Tony. I will send you my order as soon as I am back to a decent internet connection.
I am happy to announce for those of you waiting patiently to purchase, that Marie has finished her work on the hard copy of Tony Treadwell's book and here is the link for purchase......

Best Regards,
Sent for book today! Will really miss Tony and his very valuable advice on restoring antique guns. Hope this helps his family.
I ordered today also...Geo
I ordered my copy this morning and posted the link to the order page over on the Not board.
Any progress on restoring the iBook link?
Ordered - looking forward to it and hope this is as successful as possible for Tony's family trust fund.

Craig.
ordered mine tonight. hardcover.
cant wait.
I ordered the 18th; recieved notice tonight mine shipped today...Geo
I just ordered mine too. Can't wait to see it.
Is everyone happy with ordering books now?
I ordered a copy on Monday morning and it arrived at my door Thursday morning. I am in England UK. Thank you to the American Postal service, Fedex, DHL, UPS, who ever? That is absolutely brilliant service.
I know one or two of you have had problems but it does look like Lulu is getting to grips with the task.
Can I ask for your support please if every doublegunshop browser bought a copy of this book it would keep Tony's memory alive, benefit Will & Izzy's trust fund and maybe , just maybe Lulu will realise that there is money to be made publishing gun books!
Done! Good cause all around and I look forward to a good read. Thanks, Sal
I bought a copy of the book and received it within one week of purchase. I have skimmed through the book and it looks to me, Tony really put his heart and soul into it especially considering the limited time he had to complete it. As a shooter and only minor gun tinkerer, I am looking forward to hearing from the real gunsmith types as to their evaluation of the book and Tony's techniques because I am pretty clueless as to the mechanisms of actual high quality gunsmithing.
I purchased the e-book copy. My heart goes out to Tony's wife and girls. As a father of 6 kids, I deeply respect his concern for his family. He provided as best he could and, were I in his shoes, I, with my skills in my profession, could not have done as well as he to provide in his unfortuante abstentia. My prayers to him and I hope thefew shekels that I sent to his wife and kids will in some small measure assist them in the future.
We recieved all of our copies that were ordered for Friends Customers and a couple of people that were "Gun Snobs"....I made sure that they passed their opinions of Tonys "Efforts on to me before they blew their "Hot Air" elsewhere....I personally like Tony's book from cover to cover. He was a Craftsman, without all the "Hoopla" that we, "Apprenticed to the Grand Old Houses for all those many years of our youth" Had to endure. I sincerley hope that His wife Marie & the 2 Children, are able to continue with their lives with the Memory of Tony for years to come. David Trevallion, (Purdeys Sept 1953-April 1.1964.
I ordered the ebook and the charge cleared my bank. I have been emailing but have not been able to download the book and my emails have gone unanswered. anyone else having a problem?

Anybody having problems should contact Marie Treadwell at the following email address as she answers as promptly as possible.

Posted at Marie's request.

I ordered the e version but had difficulty getting my kindle to download. The kindle is brand new so I suspect operator error. I went back and ordered the hard copy.
I have ordered the hard copy. Will get pride of place on the bookshelf!
Two days ago, Tony's book was retrieved from the mail office, I read most of it in less than 48 hrs., very satisfied, (though there are some minor glitches like unfinished sentences), quite helpful for someone placed so far from established restoring centers. I have already contacted JayCee, he is eager to read it too and put that experience to good use for the benefit of the local gun community.

I ordered a copy from Lulu from a link on this site about 10/04. I recieved notification that it was shipped 10/08 but I still haven't seen it in 10 days. Has anyone else bought anything from Lulu, and what was your experience with them? I paid with Pay-Pal just on the chance of trouble so I have them and my card company for help if it isn't delivered. Lee.
I am still waiting for mine, ordered 29/9/2012. But I live in hope it will show up!
Arrived! Very happy. Thanks Tony for this great legacy.
As suggested here I e-mailed Marie on the website given here. After trying to contact Lulu with no sucess I filed a complaint with Pay Pal. After I sent the e-mail to Marie, Pay Pay advised that at the "sellers request" my complaint was being elevated from a complaint to a "claim" and they were investigating it. I am currently awaiting a decision from Pay Pal, but am hoping the book shows up. I not only would like to have the book (otherwise I wouldn't have ordered it), but the money is going to a good cause. If I lose out and don't get a refund I hope Lulu gets the money to Marie as they charged Pay Pal the day I ordered and 4 days before they sent me notice it had been shipped. Lee.
