I have a 12 Gauge BC Miroku Model 550 SxS Serial # 165528. I am familiar with Miroku guns and a little of the history of Miroku, but I'm trying to determine the age of this gun. I assume it's post WW2, but it's pretty worn and the wear and fine engraving makes it look fairly old - possibly pre-WW2. Can anyone give me some info on the Model 550? It's not an imported gun - I got in in Japan.

Beautiful gun.... looks quite similar to my old B.C. "My Luck" model KE (sold to a fellow board member). I bought it from a vet who served in the navy (sometime in 60s I think) and brought it back from Japan.

Finding info on any Miroku seems next to impossible. Good luck!

I can't answer your questions, but I do like the guns lines. Though it's obviously seen some use,it looks very nice. I am curious though, it looks fairly light weight, what does it weigh?
Steve
Steve,

I don't know what it weighs - and since it's in the states and I'm in Japan, I won't be able to weigh it for a while. But when I shot it, it felt light to average, so I would guess between 6.5 - 7 pounds.

It's a nice gun with subtle but elegant engraving.

Patrick, your Miroku 550 shows up in catalog copy reprinted in "Buxton's Guide to Foreign Firearms", which dates from 1963. So it could be more recent than pre-WWII.

Patrick,

Nice gun, I'd be very happy to own that. I'm collecting data on Miroku SxS serial numbers (see web address in my signature below) to help people in your position. The only gun where there is a serial number and a purchase date is 192753 dated 1964. If you are happy to do so, please add your gun's data to the list.

Thanks,
Nigel.
I have to add a Miroku SxS to my wish list. Really a nice looking gun that would be a great safe mate to my O/U Miroku. Love the 2 triggers on a SxS.
L.Brown,

I do not have that book, but looked it up - It seems to be primarily for German guns and then some other European guns; but it has Miroku in it? That's odd. Can you send me what it shows? Do you recommend the book?

Thanks,
Patrick
Nigel,

Thanks. I tried to access the link but am getting blocked - will try to access it on Tuesday from work. The gun serial number you mentioned with a purchase date of 1964, is that the original purchase date or just a date that someone purchased that gun?

To add my gun to the databaase, do I put in the date that I bought it? That would only be a couple of years ago and the guns is obviously a good bit older.

Patrick,

1964 was the original purchase date for the gun I mentioned. Of the records I have collect so far, that's the only original purchase date. Everyone else was a s/h purchaser.

When you input your data, there is a bought new/used option. Just choose 'used'.

I have a Model 500 20b and it gets a lot of very positive comments from other shooters. I find it hard to miss with it (and, believe me, I need a gun like that!) .

Nigel
Nigel,

Is your miroku a SxS or O/U? What's your interest in Mirokus and the motivation behind your serial # project?

Patrick--It covers a lot of the foreign firearms available at that time. It includes the Winchester 101 as well as Miroku (OU as well as sxs), but does not include SKB--although at that time, Ithaca hadn't yet begun importing those guns. I'd be happy to copy the pages and mail them to you if you PM me your address. I refer to Buxton's fairly frequently. Don't know how easy it is to find a copy these days or how much one would cost, but I find it to be a handy reference for post-WWII foreign guns.

Adam,

Nice looking gun ;-)

If you can find a better gun than a Miroku (at the same price)... buy it !!!

I love the 550 .... First one I've ever seen !!!

Nigel,

You have a gun with serial # 192753 dated 1964.
My serial # is 165528 - 27,225 numbers earlier.
Does anyone have and idea of the manufacture date of 165528?
I would guess the 50's if not earlier - any thoughts on this?
