Thank's again fella's for the help on the Parker,it's still up in the air ...here's a couple more I discoverd.
#1 12 gauge sidelock, beautiful full coverage fine scroll on the receiver ,no finish though, the barrel's are in decent shape ,ring beautifully but the right barrel has a dime size dent, there is a #1 on the receiver, barrel and fore end but no maker's mark's except for a gold sheild on the buttstock(checkerd butt) wich contain's what seem's to be a griffen?and the inscription "UBI AMOR IBI FIDES"the serial # 14697.

#2 is a schofeild birmingham ,twist barrel hammer gun ,the gun lock's up tight, the barrel's have a little bore pitting and don't ring (loose rib,not obvious to look at though)the wood is in need of refinish but no split's,origional buttplate is in great shape, and there is no obvious rust on the gun.serial #97763

I appreciate any help you guy's could give me (I'm really interested in #1)

Fella's ,is there any one of you who can steer me in some direction? the sidelock has no maker's mark I or anybody else could find, the gold sheild in the stock seem's to be a family crest/motto? this is all I could turn up,the barrel flat's have all the typical brit proof mark's

please help!

Newf, pictures needed for assistance. Not much to go on but there are members here who often conjure miracles with a glance.

Thank's K.B,I'm not real keen on the pc,but I will try tomorrow

Newf,
You seem to be itchin for a sxs gun.

Why not try a different approach. You give a budget range and some characteristics of a sxs you favor, and the membership would propose some gun makes, models and even some internet listed guns. This has worked very well for others here in the past.

Well Chuck, yes and no ....I have a few, but I'm alway's itchin for another sxs gun to play with,I do a little stock work and re-finishing/repair's,but where I'm from I don't get alot to choose from so when something unique come's along I like to read / ask alot of question's from people who know (this forum is a goldmine!)so I'm better informed and don't make a mistake with something, and I like to have gun's in my hand's before I buy (as most of you probably do )
I'm probably not as green as you may think, but I would be quite the arse if I thought I diden't need to ask question's from people like yourself who been at this game longer than me.

Members should know that Newfoundlanders are a culture of their own and try to hide their deserved reputations as the smartest in Canada---don't ask me why, it's just generally acknowledged---but they've produced more leaders per capita in education, the law, the arts, writing and comedy (including politics) than any other part of Canada.

Any one who has ever hunted there knows the experience of Newfoundland is worth more than fabulous game and fishes and unsurpassed scenery. It's my favourite province. I had to stick my oar in because I know of no other place with a greater sense of independence and resourcefulness, straight talk and integrity than Newfoundland.

"Ubi Amor Ibi Fides" is latin for "Where there is love, there is faith." It appears in many family crests, eg, Belfield, Garratt, Darbishire, Jaquiery and more. The gun is most likely English in origin. Pictures would be the only way to id the maker, if at all. You say there is #1 on the receiver. So it may be one of a matched pair.

The second gun does not sound like it is worth the bother, unless the price is very low.

Locate a copy of "Fairburns Crests",there you may find the name of the family associated with your gun. I would recommend that you obtain assistance from a reference library because this is a scarce book.
By the way, the current Canadian, T.V. adds on the beauty and forna of Newfoundland are great! They will inspire many to visit your lovely Island,to hunt, fish and enjoy the people and scenery.
P.S. Schofield, William, Gunmaker 36, Weaman Street, Birmingham 1873-1882, nothing further known.

Don't know anything about the SxSs you are inquiring about. That being said after reading what your fellow Canadians say about Newfoundland, think that will be my next Canadian destination.

I've even been across there from England; not too far really. Liked Newfoundland and Nova Scotia so much we are planning a return visit. Lagopus.....

Newf,
You've chosen a good host website for your pix. From the page that shows a number of small pictures, you simply have to put your cursor on the picture and a dropdown appears with 4 choices. You then just move your cursor down to the bottom one, "IMG Code", right click, a window appears that has some choices, chose "copy" with a left click. Then simply put your cursor in the reply window of this site where you want the picture, left click once, then right click, the window with the choices appears, chose "paste" and a web address should appear in the reply window. Preview it then submit it.

O.k fella's at the risk of sounding low minded,I just can't get my head wrapped around this at all ,if any of you fella's can put this pic's up for everyone to see ,thank's a million (Chuck.H?)In the meantime has anybody who has seen the pix have any idea what the sidelock is or what should be a reasonable offer?

Thank's again

The gun has Bmham. marks, but the engraving looks distinctly Liege to me.
It is a lovely gun and probably needs to be bought.:}
Best,

Well,I expected a little more interest...but no worry's,nothing ventured nothing gained,I had very little interest in the Schofeild ,I don't mind re-laying the rib ,if the gun could of been had for $100.00,the un-known seemed to have sketchy wall thickness(possibly worth sleeving?)that coupled with a nasty pit just ahead of the forend and it needed to be re-stocked by right's,I thought it quite alot of work for a gun with no name.
The Parker well ,I investigated it a little more ,it was said to be a dh grade ,but no grade designation could be found, the wood seemed quite plain for all the fancy engraving ( it did match dh samples I found ) and the case color's were quite vivid for the age and wood condition.....any thought's anyone ?
Posted By: Linn Re: for your consideration - 03/17/10 12:06 AM
A Parker without an ID on the gun would be very unusual. Is their any marking on the top rib that indicates the name of the manufacturer and the type of steel? Are the barrels damascus or fluid steel?

Sorry Linn ,go to page 5 on this forum, the post was "Parker, how much?" that will explain it
