We have a coyote problem here on the farm. Lost 3 lambs and a ewe in the last month. So one day (when it wasn't raining!), I went to take my tree stand down and took my 20/22 mag Savage with me. I know, it's not a Kreighoff but here in OR you can't use a centerfire on coyotes in deer season unless you have an unfilled deer tag. Hence the choice of calibers. Choice of gun was dictated by my plan to paint this gun camo.

Got in my stand, blew my call, and twenty seconds later two coyotes showed up. Amazing how they can pinpoint both the direction and distance of the sound. For about 10 seconds, they were close enough to one another to take them both. But one was looking directly at me so I had to bide my time. One went left, the other stayed out in front. When both were looking away, boom, and the coyote dropped dead on the spot. It was a quartering away shot from above, aimed for base of skull with no. 2 copper plated 3" Federals.

Other dog disappeared of course. Gave it 5 mins, called again, and lo and behold, a cautious movement. Thought it was a bobcat. But then coyote no 3 appeared (a yearling) and cautiously approached no 1, now lying dead about 20 yards from my stand. Boom, a little prancing around, and down he went within 15 yards of no 1.

Both dogs were stone dead when I got to them.

I'm surprised with a law like that no one has developed a 30-06 type rimfire....

Do they still sell 20 ga slugs?

Russ,
That 22 mag 'll do a number on 'em too. Solid point W-W's or CCI's and they drop just as dead.

Hello Russ:

Good job, but I think you will need to do this a few more times. There always seem to be more than you think. When you have finished come to my son's house, he has a pack of five that has taken any cat or small dog left out overnight. This is in the city and no shooting in the city limits and the DFG refuses to send in their trapper. They say the problem it too big and to handle it yourself. Catch 22

Good to hear from you and nice seeing you at the Vintage Cup in New York. Will you be in Las Vegas this year?
Hi Ralph,

I am thinking about it. Frankly, each time I have done it I have regretted it. Maybe it's just me but I don't sell much at that show, and I always get a couple of orders via my websites while I am at the show, making me wonder why I am spending around $2k to attend the show. And UPS always breaks something either coming or going.

I may just come as a spectator this year.

Regards,
