From what I can tell, the only firearms that seem to be in the good graces of this administration(so far) are rifles of non-armour piercing quality(22lr) and break-open shotguns. All auto-loaders BAD!
This would make your antique Colt 45, scoped Remington 700 deer rifle(sniper's rifle), Winchester model 12 and big bore blackpower rifles over 50 cal illegal to own.
Oh, and not to mention those evil battle rifles and their look alikes.
Have I left anyone's out?

So deer hunting is out...right? Tough to drop with a .22.

well, some 22's are more equal than others. My 220 Swift will work wonders on deer.

I dropped a Whitetail DRT once with a .22LR neck shot at about 20 yards; but that would not be my deer rifle of choice!

It was said tonite on the Glenn Beck Show, that the bubbas as in the "Bubba effect" who btw are for the most part constitutionalist in their beliefs, might be the first arrested for their choice of firearms - even tho they are fending off the hords of wrong doers.
I see cases of 223s going out the door - perhaps a wrong choice for the long run and your duty.

Part of the end run the D.C. city council is attempting to circumvent the recent Supreme Court ruling (Heller vs. D.C.) is to ban any clip fed gun capable of holding more than 10 rounds. But this also includes your .22 with a five round clip merely because someone may sell or make a clip for that gun capable of holding more. No gun is safe from any gun banner. No Constitutional right is safe from anyone who would infringe on the 2nd Amendment. A related thread several days ago chronicled the efforts, marches, and protests by angry former gun owners in Canada and elsewhere. That is reactive. Maybe too little too late. Will we also wait until it's too late to react? Isn't that motivation enough to do something beforehand? Have you called-written-e-mailed your senators and congressmen yet to let them know where you expect them to stand? Have you joined and supported the NRA? Or do you just plan to let others carry the load for you, and then whine when you lose something precious?

"A related thread several days ago chronicled the efforts, marches, and protests by angry former gun owners in Canada and elsewhere."

keith, those "angry former gun owners" are still gun owners and their efforts, including storming Parliament Hill, resulted in the opposition Conservative Party promising to get rid of the gun registry.

The Conservative Party of Canada now is a minority government and holding to its promise when it has a majority in the House of Commons. What we did was not too little or too late; I was a mouthpiece and paraded outside the legislature here.

American sportsmen should consider more seriously demographics: their country (as Canada's) is one of hollowing countrysides and city states. We remind countryside politicians their seats are safe biding by our will.

This provides no assurance of anything because a majority represent the cities. It does, however, command a strong voice and represent a constituency to consider in making laws for everyone involving heritage, tradition and rights.

Yip-yapping about Amendments or Constitutions doesn't cut it. There was a time when reference to those words meant game-over. No more. Publics demanding better representation from their politicians must learn to thrust where it hurts.

I've been on these barricades for a long time. I know what doesn't work. Brave talk is great for the sound-bites and cameras but our guys who went to Parliament Hill were mostly respected white-haired community veterans, no camo and ball caps.

We got a written and declared political commitment from the governing party of Canada. Off-your-ass activism works, as mentioned many times here. Paying someone to act for us is O.K. for the weak and infirmed of our community.

The strong and willing do both.

Sam, that's a fascinating read, good reporting. MacArthur's involvement comes up in historian accounts but never to my knowledge in such detail. Makes me wonder if the march lingered in public memory, if Truman didn't have more public support than I thought when he fired MacArthur from all his commands 18 years later. It seemed a powerfully gutsy call at the time. Reading the news flash in the wire room, I was astonished. Thanks for the link and thanks to American Heritage.

In my opinion, based on the present economic situation the U.S.A. Simply cannot cannot afford to register firearms, if Canada,s experience is any guide as to cost.
To date Canada has spent $3.0 Billion on the registry for long guns.[ie; Hand guns have been subject to registration and strict control since the 1930,s.] Considering the number of firearms in circulation in the U.S.A.the cost of a registry would likely exceed the cost of the Auto or perhaps even the Bank bail out.
Has criminal use of firearms declined in Canada as a result of registration of long guns,I believe not! Every day we read of Shootings and murders related to gang and drug activity. The weapon of choice being the hand gun, which as I said earlier have been subject to registration since the 1930,s.
Perhaps The cost implications, may influence politicians to reconsider the wisdom of registration?

Increased firearms sales set a positive trend
for upcoming outdoor events in Arizona

PHOENIX – The recent reports of increased firearms and ammunition sales across the nation set a positive note for upcoming shooting events and outdoor shows in Arizona despite the nation’s challenging economic downturn, said Arizona Game and Fish Department officials.

According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, firearms sales in the nation jumped 28.8 percent in January, for a variety of reasons.

In addition, Winchester previously announced that ammunition sales were up 18 percent in the last quarter of 2008 compared to the previous year.

According to CNNMoney.com recently, there was an 11-percent increase during January of single-day campground reservations over last year, indicating outdoor recreation remains hugely popular even in this economy.

At the recent SHOT Show in Florida, which is the annual retail trade show for those in the outdoor industry, attendance increased 3 percent this year.

Posted By: King Brown Re: Is your stuff on the hit list? - 02/24/09 03:48 PM
Jim's and Patriot's messages, back-to-back, are interesting. One cites unprecedented interest in guns and ammunition; the other a guarantee of complete confiscation. The question I have is where do the people live who are doing the buying? Recreation or home defence, and for what reasons?

I ask because I've always thought the resistance to guns and the shooting sports generally came from the cities, where country people flock because of limited opportunities. Cities have the majority votes which make laws that militate against the interests of most of us here.

My community of fishermen and farmers who embraced hunting ducks and deer now reflects city demographics on the clear evidence that the only person who hunts on our 10km road leading to the sea is an old guy who leaves before daylight in a boat with a big black dog---me.

Members may have noted in the current Wildfowl magazine Giant Equipment Issue that Canadian Wildlife Service contributors reported "Falling numbers of waterfowl hunters have reduced the Canadian harvest to a small fraction of the total numbers of ducks and geese harvested across the continent each year."

Whatever the answers are to the questions above, this is no time for defeatist talk. Expectations often lead to reality. Not to be political: your President has been handed a superhumanly complex problem, unprecedented in world history, and a big part of his job is managing expectations, building confidence.

It's the same for our shooting sports. Leading isn't quibbling.

Quote King:
"The question I have is where do the people live who are doing the buying? Recreation or home defence, and for what reasons?"

That's a fair question and I'll answer this as best as possible. First off I live in a densly populated urban area in Arizona.
Additionally I work part time at one of the busiest gun shops here and spend a lot of time at shows.

The bulk of the purchases I have noted lately have been in the semi-automatic pistol(Glock,Sig etc.) and semi-automatic rifle(AR15,AK47 etc.) areas. Many of these have been purchased by new firearms owners and they usually have to be shown how to operate the gun. Everyone seems to be aware of the threat of a new "assault weapon" ban and also are very concerned for their own personal safety with the current economic and political climate we're facing. The shop has been completely sold out of AR 15 type rifles at times and the manufacturers are all back ordered from what I understand.
One of the Managers set up at the last major gun show here with 60 brand new AR15s made by DPMS. He sold all of them in less than one day. I'll post more as more information becomes available.

Asking about at local shops indicates that Jim is spot on about the type of firearm purchased, the profile of the folks buying, and their reasons for doing so. All I can say is I'm happy they didn't all see the potential of the M1A or a Garand (size counts, the "big lie", etc). Hopefully, we won't be poking holes in each other with these sinister-looking varmint rifles but who knows?

Whats happening in this Country?
Unfortunately the Country is polarized as never before. I personally feel I have little to nothing in common with the Obama supporters and I supect they feel the same way about the likes of me. Just listen to what one of the ACORN Members is saying in this interview and you'll understand where I'm coming from:

I was brought up in a working class/blue collar staunch Democratic household. My beliefs haven't changed since my early years but the Democratic party has shifted so far to the left that it would have been in concert with the Communist part of my youth. I hate to bring politics back into this discussion but I think it's the only way you can explain what's happening with gun purchases today.

As Alan Keys explains in his video, and he is a black conservative, the current administration will destroy this country during this current four year term, far beyond what "anybody realizes", especially the losers that voted for Hussien Obama.......there will be enough legislative damage that it will not be repaired.....therefore, our country as we know it, will be forever negatively damaged and changed.........and that is a fact.........and that is what the dummies voted for....CHANGE......

It is the beginning of the saddest evolution in the history of the U.S.A.....ALL BECAUSE "STUPID" PEOPLE VOTED FOR "STUPID" PEOPLE......

The current gun sales reflect this..........
The current stock market reflects this..........
Consumer confidence reflects this...........
Foreign relations reflect this...........
World attitude reflects this..........

AND SO ON........

To the "Wall"- or perhaps "Balls to the Wall"?? Strongly said, Sir Lowell of the Glenn-in-Thorn. Does that mean you are putting poor old Jim Dumbo back to work for Remington, and those nice cushy "freebie" hunting trips he used to enjoy? The problemo here is that the new "Admin" considers ALL guns to be evil- Black being a given here. The only military based guns I own are:
Colt Combat Commander .45ACP (based of course on the timeless 1911 Browing design), a Star Gauged NM 1903 Springfield 30-06 mfg. 1938 that I bought at Camp Perry years ago.

Wonder if the legions of Garand owners will see a "loophole" in the Big 21 Hit List- magazine capacity limited to 6 rounds- But the Garand is NOT a magazine fed shoulder weapon, it is clip fed, and to be even more specific, a frangible of sorts clip-not the like links on a MG43 or a M-60 of course, so how about dat? In my state, if you deer hunt with a Garand, you have to use modified clips for 5 round max. capacity-as deer seldom return fire in the Northwoods, that's OK I guess, but if I had to use a Garand in a defense mode-I'd want the full 8 rd. clips. I still prefer a long extractor style BA, and with the Springfield I can recharge the magazine well with another round every time I cycle the bolt-

The AR-15 and its many clones-like a 12 gauge riot pump shotgun- has a "deadly" look I suppose, and ever since "Rambo" we have been inundated with all the para-military culture. You see it at gun shows and other venues- Truth be told, I am sure Jim Zumbo is probably an OK guy, but he sure gave the anti's a lot more help than he probably bargained for with his ill-chosen remarks about "Evil Black Rifles".. Cat is out of the bag now Lads--

Please read my earlier post on the cost of registration in Canada. Perhaps there is an accountant amongst those who view this web site who is capable of estimating the potential cost of implementation.I am sure the cost would be astronomical and would be sure to make at least some politicians reconsider the wisdom of even considering this programme, in particular under the present economic circumstances.
Posted By: treblig1958 Re: Is your stuff on the hit list? - 02/25/09 02:34 PM
Collective right versus individual rights; there's the rub. The most dangerous point of contention FOR the banning of individual ownership of firearms in this country was the argument presented that the Second Amendment is a collective right and not an individual right. The Federal Courts have dismissed this as, and I quote below,

“the Bill of Rights does not protect people, it protects ‘collective rights’ of states,” Korwin notes. That position had little to support it in the historical record, but was favored by people seeking to ban firearms from public hands. The “collective rights” theory, a recent creation, was dismissed with ridicule by the Court (equating it to Alice in Wonderland). The Amendment itself speaks of “the security of a free state,” and “the right of the people.”

Stating and equating their argument as "Alice in Wonderland Theory" Not only did the High Court disagree with the anti-gun theory and their rhetoric but in doing so the Court went out of their way to insult them. Ahhhh…… I Frickin love it!!!!!

Guys, our Founding Fathers and in their infinite wisdom set up a system of checks and balances unmatched in any other country LET IT WORK BECAUSE IT DOES WORK.

Now we find ourselves in a situation where Obamas' Chicago Mafia is moving the Census Dep't. into the White House under the control of Raum Emmanuel. I can hardly wait to see the lines of congressional re-districting that will result. Then we have ACORN getting billions of dollars of so-called bailout money as payola for delivering past and future elections. My great but fading hope is that former Penna. Asst. I don't reckon it matters what the antis come after first, it will be just the first step. And if you're willing to surrender one gun, or one kind, they'll just take 'em all anyway. Dr. Sam Vaknin PhD writes:
Dr. Vaknin has written extensively about narcissism....
Obama's posture and body language are louder than his empty words....Obama's speeches are unlike any political speech we have heard in American history.....Never a politician in this land had such quasi "religious" impact on so many people....The fact that Obama is a total incognito with ZERO accomplishments, makes this enexplicable infatuation alarming !....Obama is not an ordinary man....he is not a genius.."IN FACT HE IS QUITE IGNORANT ON MOST IMPORTANT SUBJECTS"....
Dr. Sam Vaknin, author of the Malignant Self-Love believes "Obama appears to be a NARCISSIST"....When Dr. Vaknin talks about narcissism, everyone listens.........
Testimonies from Obama's closest and nearest disclose that Obama is either a narcissist or he may have narcissistic personality disorder (NPD)....
Narcissists project "grandiose" but FALSE images of themselves.....David Koresh, Charles Manson, Stalin, Saddam, Mao and Adolf Hitler are a few examples of narcissists in our time....!
If an issue raised in the Senate does not help Obama in one way or another, he has no interest in it. The "present" vote, is a safe vote......hence his voting record.....Those issues are unworthy by their very nature, because they are "not about him"....The Harvard Law review asked Obama to write about race relations in this country...The University of Chicago Law School provided him longer than expected and it evolved into "guess what".....his own autobiography !....Instead of writing a scholarly paper focusing on race relations, for which he had been paid, Obama could not resist writing about his sublime self...he entitled the book "Dreams from My Father"....
Surprisingly, Adolf Hitler also wrote his own autobiography when he "was still nobody".....So did Stalin.....!
Narcissists are often callous and even ruthless, as the norm, they lack conscience....this is evident from Obama's lack of interest in his own brother who lives on a dollar a month...he is a man who lives in luxury, who takes a private jet to Hawaii for vacation and raised a record half-billion dollars in his campaign, but has NO INTEREST in the plight of his brother....Why, ??....because his brother cannot be used for his ascent to power.....The narcissist cares for no one but himself...
The Democrats have placed all their hopes on Obama....Pathological narcissists are dangerous because they look normal and even intelligent.....to him reality and fantasy are intertwined....this is a MENTAL health issue, not just a character flaw....this disguise makes him dangerous.....
The great majority of blacks decided to vote for Obama...only a fool does not know that their support for him was racially driven....This is racism, pure and simple. The downside is that if Obama turns out to be a disaster, WHICH I PREDICT, he will cause widespread resentment among the whites....
The blacks are unlikely to give up their support of their man...Cultic mentality is pernicious and unrelenting. They will dig their heads deeper into the sand and blame Obama's detractors of racism.....This will cause a backlash among the whites.....
Obama will set the clock back decades...America is the bastion of freedom....the peace of the world depends on the strength of the U.S.A......and its weakness translates into the triumph of terrorism and victory of rogue nations.
It is no wonder that Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez, the Castrists, the Hezbollah, the Hamas and the lawyers of the Guantanamo terrorists and virtually all sworn enemies of the U.S. are so thrilled by the fact that their man is in the White House.....the U.S.A. is on the verge of destruction. THERE IS NO INSANITY GREATER THAN ELECTING A PATHOLOGICAL NARCISSIST AS PRESIDENT...

It is sort of cute, Dave. It doesn't change the fact the President is the most popular and beloved leader in the world, including the United States of America.

King, isn't that interesting, the man really has not done a thing but is better than sliced bread, is that good timing or what????

Thanks for wishing us well.

I hope everything turns out. But, I wish he would quit making speaches because every time he opens his mouth the stock market goes into the toilet.

If your guns are not on the hit list now, they will be later. You have to divide to conquer.

King,
not sure how you can prove "most beloved leader" I guess thats kind of like "save" or create 3 1/2 million jobs.

I have no clue about the rest of the world but know he is not as popular here as much as you think he is.Over 56 million people did NOT vote for him and a lot more are wishing they didn't when they see their brokerage statments.

BTW the "community organizer in chief"' and his AG Eric Holder are on deck to bring back the AWB;

King Brown:

It is funny that you defend this President to the extent that you do, especially being a Canadian citizen....you must be a decendent of the black people that the British took to Nova Scotia after they lost the revolutionary war, the ones who aligned themselves with the British and were promised freedom ?.... Most of them went later in fourteen ships with the British to Freetown, Africa to be truly free and start their own colony..., but some stayed in Nova Scotia.........am I correct ??....Not really important, but just an intelligent guess.....due to your steadfast Obama defense...!...You are consistently the only one on this post to defend Obama and YOU are CANADIAN.... ??

As I travel around the world monthly, I have met no one who trusts or admires Obama and most are very leery of this man....it is obvious in his speeches that he is full of B.S. and untruths...!....Anyone with an I.Q. over 40 can see this and it is all coming out now...... The countries visited recently would include most of Asia, most of Europe, Australia and a few South American friendlies......No African continent countries though.....I still fly one cargo trip internationally per month usually......and talk to lots of "men on the street"...you know, the REAL representation of most countries.....

I'm not sure where you are getting your information, but if it is off of the electronic toilet (internet), then you have been sadly misled sir...........

Best Regards,

No, PA24, I think I'm white although my great grandmother was a full-blood Mi'kmaq who passed that tribe's surpassing beauty down the female line. My great-great grandfather, master of a sailing ship, married a handsome Cuban octaroon and brought her back to Nova Scotia, which once had in one port more tonnage under registry than the republic of France.

I ask your indulgence of my admiration and support of what the United States is trying to do. No other country has the spirit, financial and industrial resources and intellectual capacity to kick-start a rescue. It's more difficult than Ike's mastery of marshalling military and industrial forces for the the invasion of Europe; the President can't order compliance at the risk of a firing squad.

As a fellow flier---mine is a family of three generations of pilots---you may appreciate my admiration for a country doing something that can't be prepared for in any simulator. Consider also that a fellow Maritimer (who became our most powerful Canadian) ordered British aircraft manufacturers to produce more Spitfires for the Battle of Britain or face a firing squad.

So my emotion, my colour, my Canadian citizenship has nothing to do with my respect and admiration. The United States is attempting a spectacular high-wire act without a net deserving the prayers and best wishes of the world. I know Americans. I worked for years all over their country reporting to Canada. Old now, I only wish there was something I could do to help.

Thank you, very well said..........

The best indicator of any recession are the financial institutions and the people who invest most of the money, in any country.....Our new president has taken it upon himself to "punish" these people and the consequences will be quite dire, I believe......
In this country there is a very small portion of citizens that pay over 50% of the Federal taxes...if these taxpayers become disenfranchised, they will merely remove their money....the obvious then takes place.......at present, this administration is quite close to disenfranchising these people.....and horrible things will occur, quite surely, like a NEVER SEEN BEFORE VERY DEEPENING DEPRESSION....so it is like walking on eggs right now, as the WORLD stock market reflects....and Obama is doing all he can to smash the eggs.....!!! .......There lies the overwhelming problem.........Not to mention the gun issues, the perks, Pelosi's useless trips on taxpayer paid aircraft, unchecked liberal posturing and legislation.....and so on...

F.Y.I.........Obama has not "accepted this burden himself" like some hero.....Clinton's 8 years are the reason the economy is now in a mess......Clinton changed laws he should NOT have messed with..........the Iraq war did the rest......Then OPEC decided to raise oil, with one purpose in mind and it worked, all because Clinton and the tree hugger's wouldn't drill in the 90's .....BUT WHEN ATTACKED, ONE MUST RESPOND....IMHO.......Had it been Toronto, you folks would have done the same......although, I do believe that Obama would not respond if attacked, so portions of the world are very happy right now......!
