Diggory opens with the conventional explanation for the adoption of the break-action pin-fire in UK - ie. Lefaucheauxs single barrel pin-fire at the London Exposition inspired Hodges to make a copy, who sold it to Lang who made the first for sale pin fire and the rest is history.
However, note last month's Vintagegunjournal and the article by Stephen Nash which challenges this widely accepted legend. This is posted on the Reilly history, Chap IV, 23:
**Note: Stephen Nash, a pin-fire expert, has published an excellent and erudite examination of the British adaptation of the French breech-loading conception. He has postulated convincingly that Hodges and Lang adopted elements of Beringer's center break concepts in their gun, vice those of Lefaucheaux.23mhttps://www.vintageguns.co.uk/magazine/lever-over-guard-originsLast edited by Argo44; 12/27/23 04:02 AM.
