Perhaps a move to better balance or lighter weight. The first is subjective, of course, but the latter is not.

A solid rib can be hollowed out from underneath and be made pretty light. Not so long ago I made a 34” rib(4.3oz) for a Parker sleeving job that weighed several ounces less than the factory 28” rib(7oz). Workholding is difficult and expenses high of course.
