In the book, The history of the Birmingham Proof House ,page 74 there is a brief history on Bentley and Playfair. We learn that they were government contractors and that the business was founded by Mr Bentley in 1840.
Mr Charles Playfair was Chairman of the Guardians of the Birmingham Proof House from 1892 till his death in 1898.
Charles Playfair was one of the original investors in B.S.A.
Bentley and Playfair amalgamated with Isaac Hollis in 1911.
Lt; Colonel Charles Playfair, son of Charles¨was appointed proof master in 1914 and served till his death in 1941.
In 1949 when my copy of this book was published, Hollis Bentley and Playfair were located at 91 &92 Loveday Street, Birmingham.
