I need some help as to what I have here. Any help and information will be greatly appreciated in addition as to what it might be worth. It is a 16 ga over a small 8X57.
Thanks
Phil

Walter Uhlig Leipzigerstraße 27, Halle on the River Saale( Halle an der Saale ), I suspect it was sourced from the mechanics in the Zella-Mehlis region. Interesting screw locations. Looks like some Blitz varaiant.

Shuck the forend and let us have a gander at the marks.

I'll try to get some pictures of the markings underneath the forend tomorrow. However, you can already see I'm a pretty poor photographer.
Thanks for looking

I saw a different Uhlig gun for sale a while back and was interested enough to do a little digging, including checking out the neighborhood of his shop (via internet) and such. Best guesstimate is he was a "high street" sporting goods retailer in the nicest part of town, and not a maker himself.

But it looks like one hell of a nice piece there.... Esp. that trap.

I took quite a few pictures of the underneath side beneath the forend. Rather than take up band width on the forum, here's a link to them at Photobucket.com http://s1013.photobucket.com/albums/af252/pmcfall/German%20Drilling/

Maybe this help in placing some value on the piece.
Thanks

It has a pre-1912 voluntary powder over bullet type stamp on the rifled tube but post 1912 on the scattergun tubes, which may be 70mm(note the 70 forward on the flats). Is there 70 forward on each flat? Is the D.R.G.M. 409728? With that & the small screws in the side of the frame, along with the serial number 23357?, I'm going to make a wild stab and say it was sourced from E. Schmidt & Habermann circa 1912. Is there an "ESHA" on any of the lugs or the standing breech? Let me dig for D.R.G.M. 409728, which is probably going be from 1909/1910?

Kind Regards,

What is the function of the second, smaller top lever, I wonder? Thank you for showing the drilling. It seems unique in many ways. Steve

Usually, one opens the breech, the other pops up the rifle site and converts the armed firing pin from the shotgun barrels to a set-type front trigger and a hair rear trigger for the rifle barrel. Elaborate actions on these drillings.

Thanks to all you guys for your comments. I've been out of town for a few days, but now that I'm back, I'll try to answer Raimey's questions in the morning.
