I have heard that there is a 4-Bore 4.5" case, is this true? I know that there is a 4.25" case, but have always wondered about anything bigger. Has anyone heard or seen any evidence of a 4-Bore that uses a 4.5" case?

Thanks You

Anything may be possible on an older gun particularly if it is a rifle or ball gun.

Ask Cal Pappas!

He's written the book on Bore Rifles(still being printed though).
He's got a 4 bore double rifle and really knows big bores.

Mike,

Thanks for the help! I will have to contact him. I have contacted him before with other questions. He is a very helpful and knowledgable gent, especially when it comes to bore rifles. I knew about his 600 NE book, but am glad to hear he is coming out with a Bore Rifle book.

Thank You,

Charlie

Cal said he has never seen a 4-bore 4.5" case for a rifle, but said there could have been shotguns using this case length. He did say there were 4 bore rifles with 5" chambers, 3 3/4", and one 3.5" that he had seen and I believe he should be covering them in his new Bore Rifle book. Said it will be a month or two before it is out.

Yep, Cal is very knowledgable on big bore rifles and their history. Not to mention that he shoots them as well!

Just look at some of his pictures on that site from our recent trip "over the rainbow' to Oz!

Cal emailed back to let me know that 5" was a typo and he ment 4". I thought 5" sounded large, but didn't think much of it coming from him.

Mike,
Looked at the photos of the trip. Looks like it was great hunting!

That trip was a blast! Great hunting and great guys to go with.

Martin,
Thank you for the information. I looked him up on the internet and couldn't seem to find any contact information. All that showed up was links to diffeent forums where someone had talked of his work. Would you happen to have an email address for him?

Thank You,

Charlie
