Interesting reinforced lower stub rib. I hadn't seen that before.

They appear to have been chopped.

How can you tell that from the pictures? I admit I would be suspicious of the odd barrel length, but it isn't far off.

Bill:
They look cut to me also, solder space between the tubes.......then someone came along and ground up what was left............also note the deep pitting on the outer surface visible in the other ebay photo's......and the file rounded upper rib end, definitely not factory work.....

There are many Fox guns that letter as to barrel length but the tubes don't touch. I have an XE sixteen that fits that criteria myself:

I work on a lot of Fox's and I have still to see one with the space you pictured.....the ones I've worked on don't have enough space worth talking about......same with other brands as well.....

I don't think there are many out there, but probably are some.....?.......

What I see look like this 1909 A Grade 12 that I did a refinish on recently:

Besides customer guns, I personally own five Philly Fox's, 12's, 16's, 20's and they all have muzzle tube spacing like my 20 bore pictured below, basically touching.........all are lettered with Callahan and all are uncut with the original factory M/F choke configurations:

I have a Fox A grade 16 which matches the factory records, gap about the same as the XE I posted, I have a Fox XE 12 gauge with a gap between the muzzles, barrel length also per factory records, and I have a Fox 12 gauge Sterlingworth that the tubes don't touch and it sure looks factory to me.

Here is a thread discussing the common occurence of Fox tubes not touching from the Fox forum:
