Does anyone out there have the book "English Gunmakers, the Birmingham and Provincial Gun Trade in the 18th and 19th Century" by Dewitt Bailey?

Came across it today and I'm wondering if it's worth the $125 it will cost me to get it.

Thanks

OWD

The book, "English Gunmakers of the Birmingham and Provincial Gun Trade of the 18&19 Century," by De Witt Bailey and Douglas A.Nie, in my opinion, contains the most complete and factual, research ever conducted on this subject. A"must",for those seriously interested in the 18&19 Century Birmingham and Provincial Gun Trade.
Be advised that the book is not a "glossy picture book" as per some recent publications on the Birmingham trade. The focus is on research and basic information on the structure of the trade and Gun Makers of the period.[127 pages in total, almost $1.00 per page!]

Excellant reference book.Normally sells in the UK (if you can find one?) for circa £100 ($189?).
OWD,
Now you have alerted your Countrymen to it, it will probably be sold when you go back for it!!!!!!!!!

Expensive! I bought a copy when it first came out and priced at £7.95p. Probably better value and more comprehensive would be Nigel Brown's two volume set on British Gunmakers; usually about £100 for the pair. What do you think Salopian? Lagopus.....

Lagopus (Mike),
Yes you may well be right about value for money.
But as you are well aware, much of the pleasure is actually owning something, and that is where I feel DeWitt / Bailey fits in.Obviously you can drop lucky and find a copy at a book fair or car boot sale.
Years ago I bought a facsimile copy of Burrard's books from Coch-Y- Bondu for £65, then a friend gave me a first edition he had picked up at a car boot for 50p?
I find everytime I want something, the value goes up!
