I recently aquired a Model 21 Duck that I shoot clays with. This fall I'll take it into the field blind and duck boat. From this 8 pound hammer I'll launch heavy loads at fowl just as it was built to do! Yes, it is a bit heavier than most of my other doubles. A little extra weight is not always a bad thing. That said I don't think it will be a grouse gun...

Model 21 28 gauge, 28" barrels, heel & toe plates, 5#13oz.

Light enough for me.-Dick

Once a little blue is knocked off Dick's 28 gauge, it won't be as gaudy as some of you guys suggest. I'm not fond of gold triggers on Model 21s, but a gold pointer isn't exactly over the top. I kind of like that gun.

On the weight issue; go shoot a couple hundred 1-1/8 oz 1,200 fps loads out of a 6-3/4 pound gun and see if an 8-1/4 pound Winchester 21 doesn't start looking more attractive. Wouldn't want to carry one all day while I am chasing after Brittanys and BobWhites but they have their place in my gunsafe.

OK, that little 28 of Dick_dup ain't so bad. Give me a little crow to munch on. But it does not seem to be the rule, it is the exception with these 21's. That is a nice looking gun. I'm with 8b on the trigger, sorta sticks out like a diamond in a goats a$$.

I'm guessing Dick's gun to be a CSMC 21 on Galazan's scaled frame? I haven't handled any, but understood that the Winchester smaller bores on the 20 ga. frame were typically as heavy or heavier as the 20 ga. Win 21s.

Amazing luck! Simply selecting the left barrel made it worth twice as much. Whodda thunk!

After I got through shooting 1-1/2oz through the 5-1/2 pound gun a couple of times you could bought it from me cheap - even for you.

After fussing with it a while, my money was refunded (Mark Dehaan) without a problem and a double trigger gun replaced it. Said gun is the one I have shot a bunch. At the Vintagers shoot in Raton the only gun that broke among all the shooters was a Model 21, doubling EVERY time the right trigger was pulled. I dont think that proves a thing, except any gun can have problems from time to time..

Well it proves that two brand new Huglus doubled. How many rounds had the 21 had through it?

You are correct on both.
The Winchester smaller gauges were all built on 20 gauge frames and used 20 gauge barrel blanks resulting in guns of about 7&1/2 #'s. Frame cuts were often used to try and reduce that figure but accomplished little.-Dick
