We've got pics demonstrating how to re-cock the hammers of a disassembled gun here, and a small crescent wrench works just fine

I just use the length of a screwdriver to manually cock an uncocked Smith. I went looking for a tool but found out you really don't need one. It is quite simple. I have a 3E Regular frame with the under horns looking about the same. Makes me ill and have not gotten around to fixing it. I'm like Keith, go out of my way to avoid the barbs and other "goodies" to keep the guns in top shelf condition. To be honest, can not imagine using my gun to move the barbed wire, yikes!!!

Revdocdrew, thanks for the link to the Silvers pad,1 1/2 will be plenty thick, I measured the one on it now and it's a little over 1".
This is my third LC, I have used the small cresent wrench to cock with no problem at all, works great.
While I would never think of dragging any of my guns on wire I think these guns may have been thought of as no more than a tool to put food on the table, even more so a field grade.
My father told me stories on how my grandfather would always take his SxS to work at Greenfield Tap and Die in Mass, whatever he could get on the way home was dinner. I think that gun was rarely cleaned and spent its life propped in the corner of the garage when not in use, sure wish I had that gun.

John, if you don't require the full 1 1/2" depth of the above pad; you can always grind the depth down during the pad fitting process to provide a shorter LOP if you desire.

I don't know about the 1 1/2" pads you have but the ones I have have a 1 1/8" cavity in them. The most you could grind off would be about 1/4". It appears that they used the same mold for the 1" pad and just extended it 1/2". Too bad, it would have been nice to be able to cut the pad to the thickness you need.

OK George, so how do the "vertically challenged" guys handle electric fences? About 20 yrs. ago, a buddy and I were crossing an electric fence to cross a pasture while groundhog hunting. About 30 cows were laying down watching us and suddenly all stood up at exactly the same time. I don't know how they do that, but they do, and it startled my buddy who was holding the top strand down with the buttplate of his father-in-laws new .222 Rem. The wire slipped off the buttplate and sprung up into his crotch on a 90 degree day. The ensuing jolt caused him to literally throw the rifle a good 20 feet. Pa-in-law was not too impressed. Cows and I had a good laugh.
