Skatr2:
I must confess I am mystified about the position you hold in this matter. What pray tell did I say that falls under the heading of:
" Mr. Tag does not speak for all Aggies, thankfully."
If you are disagreeing with my commenting, rather broadly, that England has sunk to a sorry state to find a .22 Short a dire threat to public safety, worthy of detective investigative and administrative time, and 6 column inches and a photo, then please say so.
If you are opining that my rather mild suggestion that a newspaper editor should actually edit and fact check his copy is out of line, you should say so. Be forthright.
If you are suggesting that I am ignorant in my commentary, or have committed a factual error myself, then please show me where I have gone wrong. I do not claim perfection, and there are those here who have helped me "fix my facts" in the past, and likely will in the future.
If you are suggesting that it is somehow "un-Aggie" to keep my .45 ACP in my underwear drawer, and therefore you are calling me a " 2- percenter " in some veiled fashion, please be more explicit so I can defend my honor. Should I move it to the sock drawer as well?
Regards
GKT

Experience and exposure is everything when it comes to choosing one's irrational fears. Apparently Londoners don't have a lot of small arms ammo routinely kicking around the floorboards of their Broncos. This little flap reminds me of what I routinely hear from museum conservators who fear to take the cap off a can of solvent outside a range hood. Having spent a good deal of my occupational life dipped, bathed and splashed with industrial chemicals and goo-busters and still here to tell the tale, I tend to make light of the extreme precautions taken in the interest of their personal survival. "We goes to sea and some of us drowns," said the Bluenose longliner. Some folks have never been to sea and will only drown in their restless dreams. No doubt the comfort level of those who have drawers full of ordnance is, justifiably or not, a bit higher than that of those who don't. On the other hand, there's a couple thousand rounds of M2 Ball kicking around here somewhere and I'm still not interested in being gutshot, even with a .22 short.

The .22's are in my sock drawer. Silly man. I thought that EVERYONE knew to keep their .22 shorts in the underwear (shorts) drawer. What were you thinking?

Not mine but from a friend to whom I sent the article on to.
This snippet illustrates the crass idiocy and stupidity of the average Brit.Unfortunately the Press is no better and I suppose a lot of little old ladies in Walthamstow will now have sleepless nights fearing that another 22 short ctg will be found. No wonder they lost the Empire.Regards-former Brit.

I would recommend reading Mr. Theodore Dalrymple, who reflects what is going on in the UK in various articles: http://www.city-journal.org/author_index.php?author=47Specially recommend: It's This Bad, Spring 2006 Appalling! JC(AL)

In a strange inversion of proper priorities, important matters are taken lightly and trivial ones taken seriously. Indeed! jack

Excellent response GT to both the "much ado over nothing" article and to skatr2, of whom I also am waiting a response. CH

Some folks coming up 'short' here and it isn't Greg or Jack .. of course I don't know jack ;-)
This, my friends, is a sad commentary on the current staus quo in many places. Hunting/guns/defense .. of one's self &/or property has somehow been omitted from the common experience and understanding. Common sense has become quite politically incorrect. We should all attempt to address that whenever the opportunity should present itself by being rational and remaining calm. Greg knows full well he was prolly sending his missive to an individual who was not overly interested in facts .. they obfuscate the issues, don'tcha know?
'Skatr2' has the ring of a troll, but giving him the benefit of the doubt, I'll simply say he does not exactly sound like any of the Aggies that I know, as none of my A & M friends are the least confused when it comes to engagement and/or arms. High level of common sense present in every one of 'em that I have met and/or befriended, and that's a few. I don't happen to be one of 'em for those interested in such matters, but I sure wouldn't mind, and this is being said in the most apolitical manner I can muster.

Mercy a 22 short, but Islamic storefronts with number one selling beheading videos okay. Woe be the day, when Bush 'n Blair begone.
