If it was o.k. before, it very well might not be afterward. I'd be interested in knowing how many guns failed proof testing during the lifetimes of the Parker Brothers, Smith, Fox, or Ithaca companies. Bill Frech

How can they fail proof testing when they were never tested...

I'd say 350 years of experience with proof testing might have something to do with it.

Mike- if you are looking at API coded pipe- you are very close at 60,000 psi- Most popular schedule pipe welding rod is Lincoln 5-p (5 x factor0 it is an AWS 6010 code rod- the first two digits are the 000 - after stress relieving- so the Minimun tensile of the weld is 60,000= Lincoln HYP rod "we called it Hippie Rod" is AWS 7010 code- 70,000 tensile as stress relieved- Good call there Amigo-

I think that in the states we put too much emphisis on proof testing. It does not apply here so why do WE get so wrapped up in that god awful crap. Measure wall thickness, chamber length and see if everything is in order. Then buy or sell like any other gun. That would be in the world according to me. I guess what I'm saying is leave the proof system on the other side of the pond.

The trouble with common sense is that it is not very common
