My neighbor found a 7.62x39 cartridge on the sidewalk in front of our homes a couple of weeks ago.

He rang the doorbell and asked if it was mine (it wasn't) and I took it from him for proper disposal. I dropped it in the trash can.

Woe is me, I didn't realize how much danger I was in. I'll know better next time.

David:

An "AGGIE" is a student or former student of a land grant college, organized under the provisions of the Morrill Act of July 2, 1862. These colleges were established to teach basically three courses of study - engineering, scientific agriculture, and military science. The graduate would be an engineer, or a "modern" farmer or rancher, and they would be commissioned as officers in the Army or militia.

The most famous of these land grant colleges is Texas A & M University, established in 1876 on the prairie about 10 blocks from my house. That is where the phrase "Texas Aggie" originates.

Texas A & M has made numerous contributions to the State of Texas and the United States in the fields of science and engineering, agriculture and veterinary medicine. During WWII, little Texas A & M, with a student body of less than 4000, provided more than 15,000 officers to the US Armed Forces, more than any other school, including the US Military Academy and the Naval Academy.

Texas Aggies are unlike most people. The institution is unique, our traditions and history unrivaled and the brotherhood of Aggies is unparalleled throughout the wide world.

That's it for a start. I could go on for a long ways, but I am sure you get the drift.

Regards

There are also Aggie jokes; you probably should have Greg or Skatr tell you a few as I wouldn't want to get in the path of a high dudgeon and deprecation is an art best practised by the self deprecated.

No doubt Texas A&M is th most famous Land Grant college within 10 blocks of Greg Taggart's house, but we're pretty proud of the University of Georgia around here as the oldest and most famous of the Land Grant institutions...Geo

George:

I would suggest that since UGA was not organized under the Morrill Land Grant College Act, but merely accepts funding under the same, UGA is not a Land Grant college in the classic sense of the word.

Ok folks, back to the main tenor of this thread - any comments from across the pond?

Dig, Salopian, anyone else?

How do you reverse this tide? Can it be done?

An Aggie went into the Men's room and saw one of those yellow signs that said "Wet Floor".....so he did.
