I live next to a Cabela's and visit the gun library frequently. I'm happy they exist for the opportunity to view and handle some nice doubles but they certainly carry allot of duds such as a newly arrived sexy buffed and hot-blued Parker. My opinion of the Hammond store is their fine-gun inventory sits around for a good long while as a result of salty prices. It does get me in the store however.

You're right Joe; waiting for a sucker or someone who's a bit green or has hot pockets or gets what he deserves because he doesn't know what he wants and pays what it says for what he sees. Lot of horsetraders here and I imagine many of us have hands soiled by the grime of commerce. People with no residential glazing can throw all the stones they please. Have you checked your fenestration recently?

No..not kidding at all, True story. I wouldn't doubt it was the same person both times. I was so mad as I hung up the phone I just about destroyed it. I've never had that happen to me anywhere before in person or on the phone. I wrote a long hand letter addressing the situation to the main offices but I received nothing in response.

Cabela's Gun Library is just like Bass Pro's Fine Gun Room--employees range from great to awful, as do the guns, and even the prices. Based on the wide swings I see in pricing on similar guns, it appears the prices are set on a store to store basis with both chains. Sometimes even the same store pricing will swing wildly over a few month period for no apparent reason. Pays your money and takes your chances. Even at that, they take credit cards over the phone to bind the gun immediately, and will always return your money, less both ways shipping, just for the asking. No risk except the shipping. Can't beat that.

Limapapa - Only risk is when they dont describe the gun accurately, and then the unforunate buyer is faced with protracted arguing, and even reduced to possible whining, to the get the original shipping $50 credited, and then still has to pay the return shipping, unless they are a particularly good horse trader.

There is a Cabela's 4 miles from me, dealt with them too many times, all good.
Most in the Gun Library are fairly up on their guns, but as I posted before there is no way for anyone to know all the guns they have.
Used to be that you could have a gun shipped to the store to look at, no charge. They stopped that because the assigned number followed that gun and there were guns missing that some body didn't log in as being shipped elsewhere. Good way to loose your FFL.
I had a gun shipped months ago and they charged me $25.00 for the shipping and I had to pay for it then, and if I didn't like it, they would refund the money and no charge if they shipped it back.
You can also do a 90 day lay-away on used guns.
Most of you here know the going prices, if it's a little high, negotiate. If it's a lot higher, then that's the way it is. They are out to make money not break even. The store near me is the biggest yet over 250,000 sq. ft. Cost money to heat, cool, payroll, etc. Plus like I stated where else can you return a used gun up to 30 days. Not many, if any.
