I recently acquired a Lang and Hussey sidelock in what is essentially new condition. Beautiful little field gun. When dry fired with snap caps the gun opens, cocks and ejects perfectly. When fired with live ammunition it requires at least twice as much force to break the gun open. Firing pins are not dragging. Anyone have an idea what the problem might be?

Could the primers be flowing back some into the fireing pin holes?

Could be that the shell heads are swelling on firing and, especially, if steel, are not contracting sufficiently to allow easy opening. Try lower pressure and/or brass shell heads.

Good point Rocket. These were 1 ounce Gamebore's which sometime run a little hot.
