I remember that some esteemed members are into antique watches and would appreciate pointers as to where to go to enquire about a Patek Philippe that belonged to my Grandfather.

Had it been a double instead I am sure I would have a best English gun, but...

Thanks in advance,

JC

Try posting your question on the NAWCC (National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors) BB. The url is http://www.nawcc-mb.com/ You'll have to register, but that's painless. Patek Phillipe watches are among the very best in the world.

I would suggest the Watchuseek.com vintage and pocket watch forum. I have used them several times and found their experise to be unsurpassed. The Timezone forum is more about modern day Pateks and would be not be as astute. Kindest regards

Pateks are known for holding their values better than any other brand. That said, there is a staggering range of models made over the years and prices vary based on rarity as much as anything. You might sell plain gold wristwatch or pocketwatch (on the aftermarket) for something like $2-3K. A rare complication (perpetual calendar repeater, for example) could go for over a hundred times that. There is no difference in general quality, just the amount of work in making the watch and scarcity. If you happen to be in New York, you can bring the watch into Sotheby's or Christie's and the watch departments will be glad to evaluate it. They always love to have new Pateks.

You could go to large book store and look for latest Complete Book of Watches and your watch might be listed and they are priced also. It is a fine watch! Bobby

Gentlemen, thank you all for your feedback.

Bobby thanks. I am leaving for Boston on Tuesday and coming back via NY, so I can
pop into B&N or Rizzoli to look for one (Brentano's is no longer in business?).

This is it btw:
