My understnding of the twin single was it gave the advantage of instant bbl selection same as a double trigger, but by two pulls gave the advantage of not having to switch as with single trigger. Someone offered a double set up with a single non-selective trigger (R/L) in front position with a rear trigger which only fired the left bbl. Can't recall who made it, but was on the premise the vast majority of shooting would be done R/L but on occasion when the "Long" bbl only was needed simply pull rear trigger. Obviously not designed with driven bird shooting in mind. I just couldn't remember for positive which way the Browning was set up, but thought it was as you have verified.
I do not really think it was intended for one trigger to be removed though. It was I think simply designed at a time many were relunctant to change from the familar two trigger gun.
PS; Many of us stil are, reluctant to change, that is.
