A day duck hunting with old doubles is still cheaper than a MLB game. My land is an hour away, so I put the dogs in the back seat of the Carolla and the guns in the trunk and I'm off! Five dollars a gallon and three bucks per shell is still in the ballpark. Altho, the future may hold a blanket on the lap, sitting close to the fire with an ol'fowler and a decoy at hand. That'll be good too.

You got it right, Lowell. Nova Scotia barely escaped a Big Boys' scam of burdening us with $1.7 billion in taxes for hosting two-week Commonwealth Games with $1,500 for opening day tickets for Mom and Dad and two kids. Hunting is a Best Buy. Compare it to a round of golf and drinks.

Lowell sounds like you're ready to throw in the towel.

I use my LC Smiths to takes a couple geese and ducks every year using Kent Impact. But, for most of my waterfowling I use one of my newer doubles slamming steel shot through Brileys. That makes the days in the blind with an Elsie that much more enjoyable.

Bismuth is gone for the forseeable future. Kent TM is the only Non-Toxic suitable for older doubles that I have any experience with and until the other manufacturers publish technical data on hardness and conduct actual documented testing, is the only source I use/would use. Its very easy to say your ammunition will not do damage to older shotguns but these guns run the gammet of barrel hardness and construction. BTW my 32" Model 21 Duck is gone, the victim of high prices and more so the difficulty of purchasing suitable ammunition. A pair of Rem 332's using Hevi-Shot has replaced it.-Dick

Hank, You might give Cabela's a call. I just bought 4 boxes of Classics from the Kearney, NE retail store and they had 10-20 more on the shelf.

I think you're right-on about bismuth and the forseeable future, Dick. I believe the industry view that bismuth existed because Peterson wanted it to exist; it was not financially viable. Someone will in time produce bismuth shot commercially. Kent TM will be around for a while.

Cobbhead - Thanks I couldn't find anything because I was looking in the waterfowl section... I didn't even think to look at the Impact Pheasant TM loads... It sounds like the 1 1/16 and 1 1/4 loads are both pretty solid loads

As of late last fall, Griffin and Howe had some 16 ga. bismuth in 2 1/2 and (I believe) 2 3/4 low pressure 7/8 oz loads that had been loaded by (I believe) RST marked for G&H. Give them a call.

Lowell,
My gunning grounds are 2 hours away across the river in Canada and I shoot every weekend of the season from September to February. So I need more than just a couple cartridges as I shoot vintage doubles the whole season.
