The heading says."and other fine firearms, and I think this one qualifies, so here goes. In the midst of one of those "14-way trades with a shotgun to be named later", I wound up with a M-S 1908 in 8X56MS, complete with a period correct Redfield in a Paul Jaeger QD mount. It's almost art, with the clean lines and craftsmanship of a hundred years ago. The amazeing thing is the condition, which I'd describe as As-New-ish. Ther are a couple of handling marks or bruises on the wood, the metal is an honest 99+%, and the cleaning kit is still in the butt trap. There are some photos of it posted at http://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2711043/m/540106258 which should help my claim of As-New-ish All that said, it's not my kinda thing and I'm looking for the appopriate forum to market it, so I can further madvance my shotgun vice. Any suggestions? Thanks for yor help. EDITIt's good to have knowledgeable friends on the web. Based on your considerable input, the description of this MS is significantly changed as follows: It's a modified/customized MS of 1908. It probably has been reblued, and modified to accept a Paul jager QD side mount. The condition is still "As-New-ish", but it's not an unmolested MS. Value uncertain, it's still a damned nifty rifle.

If in your shoes I think I would post on Nitroexpress. IMHO this nice M.-Sch. carbine has been refinished; originaly bolt was blued, not polished white. It also has the remains of a previous scope mounting which was German claw (SEM, Suhl). So I would consider it a shooter, not a collectors item, and valued accordingly. I sold a similar one for about $1.5K a couple of years ago, but that was here in central Europe. With kind regards, Jani

I agree with Jani, nice piece but it does look reblued.I have gone through a half dozen and have two now.A nice 1903 and a 1908 that is similar (former claw mount and now has jager side mount)I picked up for 900 a couple years ago but they might have gone up a bit. Those cleaning rods are worth 150 alone. There are a couple of not too active sites you could try or just throw it upon G/I. http://www.mannlicherschoenauer.com/home.htmhttp://discover-net.net/~kanotex/mannlicher/index.html

$900 to $1200 would be a fair price....at $2200 it may take awhile to find a sucker.

No PM's received, but my email address is in my profile. Not looking for a sucker, trying to figure out what it's worth, and trade it for something I'll use.

Yeah, the side mount is a much later addition. The claws were the original mounts, and someone was probably trying to save some money when a different scope was desired. Pity, because once they're cut for the sidemount, the damage is done. Nice looking rifle, but it's strictly a shooter. I agree that it's worth maybe half of the ask.

The PM function here is a P I T A!!! Few can get it to work. I have once or twice, but commonly it just doesn't work. Wouldn't this be a better site if it would work for everyone???
Anyway, If you are of the notion, I have a vault full of trade stuff, and I would be interested in the rifle. I don't see your email address in your profile, or I would contact you that way. Mine is is my profile. I can at least run some things by you and see if you have any interest in them. We'll need to keep Dave in the deal for his little commission, but that's not a problem with me. Drop me an email if you are inclined in that direction. Thanks.
