Purdey Serial# 4236 was one of a pair of Purdey's sold on August 2, 1847 for 105 sterling and was a 14 bore. August 1883 the gun was converted by Purdeys to top lever, back action and chambered for Kynoch 16 Perfect Brass Case with rebounding locks. So says
L. Patrick Unsworth "The Early Purdeys" Christies Books 1996.
Wow H.W.! I made my previous post before I saw yours. Gee thanks! I never even heard of that book! What are the odds? How many guns does "The Early Purdeys" give data on.
Thanks again to OWD, Raimey, and H.W. Usually the new purchases get worser as I vet them, not better!
Best,
Mike
