I don't own one, but I have been looking at the CZ Bowwhite model. I like a double trigger and the rest of the gun appears to be pretty solid as well. JMHO

Hey! thats a good gun...Few people on this forum would agree, they hate Turks...But the 12 bore Bobwhite is a good value for money, as is the same gun in 28 bore,,,Way less than an RBL and you dont have to have it re checkered, recased, or wait x years for it...I generally shoot Lefevers but lately my Cz's are getting a lot of play..

Come on boyz lets get serious! Hands down Izhevsky Mekhanichesky Zavod Modell 43. I would like nice Euro version with genuine walnut stock from the Urals if you don't mind. I don't care for them birch or beech stocks very much.

Yes sir that sxs will see a skiff and float plane for sure in AK. If I were going for pure use in the AK elements I would choose the CZ sxs....... Ok let the beatings begin. I am ready for my punshiment. However for the price and what it is if it were knocked overboard its easy to replace. If the salt water and glacial silt get to it and its toast in a few years no loss. Its cheap its a beater and it better be in 12 gauge if you plane on shooting sea ducks with it. Yeah yeah yeah I know you all have killed sea ducks with a .410!!!!!!!!!!!!! That doesn't make it right. Besides that crawling into my duck blind in the dark I keep buckshot in it and the Ruger Alaskan .454 ready as soon as I drop the shotgun. Thank god I have never had to kill a brown bear. I will see if I can post a picture up on here of a place I was fly fishing and a nice brownie decided he wanted to fish there too.

Jagermeister, I agree thats a good one too, for real knockaround use. I have a dunno what model, 6.5 Swede over 12 bore that stays in the pickup. It gets a lot of use. Cant say much for the wood tho..

What ever you get also get some spare fireing pins and a stock would be nice. Make sure the forend locks on tight and keep a few slugs in a seperate pocket. Bears can be bad but moose are the most dangerous of the critter types. Its nature that gets most folks in Alaska and that holds for they guns too.

Interesting answers, as to a practical sxs! A Merkel, a Huglu, and a Baikal. Or perhaps a Merkel, 5 Huglus or 10 Baikals? I am not slamming Huglus or Baikals just pointing to price range reflected in the only 3 SXSs suggested.

I'll stick with one of my 12 gauge Model 21s and yes, Cameron, I do have one that is my beater. It has really been roughed up over the years, opened to IC/Cyl and is one heck of a gun. It would be perfect for Alaska, or any other place for that matter. If I had the money and was taking one with me for the rest of my life, it would be a new Model 21 from Galazan. Good luck.
