For all around .... carry everyday use I'd go with an 870 Marine Magnum .... I'd have it fitted with Rem chokes to take it down to M and Full when needed.... I'd always load the 3rd and 4th shells with slugs and try to remember not to blast a bird with them. I think I'd leave my sxs's for sunny warm days ..... and still carry the 870. Unless I could afford a good stout drilling Hmmmmmmm

After busting through the ice on a slough off the Kuskokwim river, while riding a sno-go, losing my late sixties 870 wingmaster, and if not for the sling hanging up on a piece of broken ice, I'd have lost a Rem 788 22-250 as well! Guess what I bought for the 870 replacement? An 870 Express model. First or second year they had been produced.

Didn't figure I'd be out much if there was ever a repeat performance, and it always performed, even in -30 temps. My brother managed to lose that one for me this past pheasant season in SD.

Limited excess to a gunsmith with non-tox shot capability for waterfowl hunting, I'd go with an 12 gauge Italian over/under, set choked at modified and full, a Beretta maybe, better yet a Perazzi, steel rated and without screw-in chokes being able to shoot slugs for big game. The ultimate in dependability and durability. And with a 12 gauge I could go to any shop and find shells.
I would take my Ruger Red Label but a dependability issue may surface.
All the best
