I vote for the Fox and based on whay you have said your choice is which one you like the most not which you need. I understand your problem, I have it all the time! The one I have to let get away! Best to you, Kurt

I'm for the Fox. I believe you can have the CSM 21 in a titanium frame (more money) that would bring it down to the weight of the Fox, but even in titanium the 21 is just not as appealing to me. I also have no fondness or inclination to use a 16g, since I only hunt upland (phez and smaller). A 16's a bigger bore than I want regardless of gun weight. If I had to have a 2 bbl CSM Fox set, it'd be 20/28g so my quail weren't overgunned.

Chuck I am not that concearned with weight. The reason for the 12ga/16ga on the 21 was for sporting clays,Ducks and Phez. The choice on the Fox being 16/20 was Phez, grouse, chukar, huns, quail. Thanks for your imput. I appreciate you telling me why not just which one. Backing up what you say gives crediablity. Honestly I think I am leaning to the Fox. Only because I can still afford a old Winchester Model 21 to use for sporting clays. I have always loved the Model 21. I own a feild grade now and would still be able to get one for sporting so that sorta gives the edge to the Fox.

Now Chuck a Sixteen is the ideal for upland game. English boxlock, German boxlock, AH Fox, or O frame Parker can all be found weighing in at 5lbs 12oz. Just as easy to get one at 6-4 if that is what you are looking for. If you keep posting such things I am going to have to agree with Phil the next time he decides to put you in your place!
Marine from your list I would choose the Fox but would only get the Sixteen barrels. You can either buy or reload 7/8oz loads for the Sixteen.
Best,
Mike

Marine, I think you've nailed the problem with your post. I don't view the two guns as substitutes for each other. As you suggest, the purposes probably vary with the quarry/game. I like your thinking on the Fox and other gun combination as it is quite doable. There is much versatility in the plan to give the edge to the Fox.
Another consideration, in my opinion only, is that the newer Foxes have a superior fit and finish while the older 21s are just fine the way they are. So, if you want to end up with one of both as shooters, I'd go with the brand new CSM Fox and recover a 21 to fill your clays needs.
That being said, you probably can't go wrong here.

You said "they were not filling an empty spot" so from this I take that the choice can be impractical. (they are also 5 figure guns) I was going to suggest the 21 if you shot alot of sporting clays, but you said the gun would not be filling a void. I picked the FOX because I think it is a better looking gun and has durabilty simular to the 21, but should have greater value in the future and except for waterfowl, do all the 21 can. Its not totally impractical to shoot waterfowl with a 20 or 16. So unless for some reason you need another 12ga- I'd choose the fox. Even though, I as a rule, I prefer 12ga. But I'm not you either. Best to you, Kurt

Hope you are in no rush for your gun. I ordered a standard Fox, no special engraving, and do not have the gun after 18 months

Now Mikey, I just said I had no fondness or inclination to use a 16, not that it doesn't work well. If you like fat ones, I'm o.k. with you having them. I just like 'em skinny-er..shells that is.
