I even owned a Wm. Evans, from Purdey, 12 bore years ago. At that time a good used Purdey could be had for $7-10,000. To indicate where Evans stood, the one I bought cost me ~$2500 as I recall and it had a single trigger and was in A-1 shape. But certainly not a "Best Gun."
Sam Snead was reputed to have once said, "You don't have to hang from a tree to be a nut, and that's what I'd be if I ---fill in the blank---" I would fill it in with "buy that Evans for that money."
The price of guns is going nutso!
