A nice Webley & Scott made gun with a chopped butt. Not only that but it is a banner engraved gun, which means it was probably pulled out of stock and Evan's name was cut into the banner. Very common practice in England until the mid-1970's.

I even owned a Wm. Evans, from Purdey, 12 bore years ago. At that time a good used Purdey could be had for $7-10,000. To indicate where Evans stood, the one I bought cost me ~$2500 as I recall and it had a single trigger and was in A-1 shape. But certainly not a "Best Gun."

Sam Snead was reputed to have once said, "You don't have to hang from a tree to be a nut, and that's what I'd be if I ---fill in the blank---" I would fill it in with "buy that Evans for that money."

The price of guns is going nutso!

The price of guns are going nuts.....but that gun is priced about 4 times market value....after its sale price. Bass pro is really nuts. I was in our local Bass Pro about 2 years ago. They had a very typical BLE from a little known liverpool maker, no real condition left at all, for a cool 13.5K....I mean reallly, it was 2500$ gun on good day. They are WAY Way out of line.
