Bones, the Cooper is a 17Hmr, and a work in progress. My SuperAmerica likes Eley Tenex, but can get by with Eley subsonic hollowpoints in the woods. Both rifles came with fab test targets also, but I treat 'em as sporters now. One day I'll get serious and try to wring out the best in them.

LG - Thanks for the info. I'll check my records to see if I have run any Ely Tenex through my Kimber, and give the Tenex a try if I have not.

A wave of patriotism has come over me, I've just added a Cooper rimfire to go with my Kimber.
I bet you're splurging on a Tasco scope this time ...Nothing worse than a nice rifle with junk glass on it.

Since Lowell opened Pandoras box of rifle favorites. Here's a question? Anyone ever used the Springfield Trapdoor Carbine 45/70 as a hunting rifle? Randy

I would if I had one. I took my Grandpa's as issued 30-40 Krag to Mich. for a deer hunt about 4yrs. ago. It proved effective.:-)

j0e, while on your hunt for your next hammergun, please keep an eye-out for a used Bushnell scope - maybe they can make you a package deal?

Lowell I bet you'll be the only guy in the world that has a Cooper rifle with a Per'Simmon scope on it.

Just in case we haven't yet strayed far enough from the subject of double shotguns . . .
Speaking of scopes, I've found Kahles scopes to offer high quality Teutonic optics and construction for less than the cost of the Zeiss and Swarovski equivalents.
The Kahles CL 3-9x42 on top of my Kimber Montana .300 WSM took quite a beating on my 2007 Colorado elk hunt. The Kahles never lost zero, never fogged, and always provided a wide, distortion free, and high contrast view. It brought home the bacon, too. All this despite being dropped in the mud and later being dunked in a creek.
