About the suit or jacket with tie in the early photograghs. I think a lot of that was inherited from our forefathers. You see pictures of men at work wearing a tie, like someone stated earlier. So in hunting, I quess it just carried over, nice look. Look how nice the "sports" look in pictures of England and Scotland hunting.

In summation, what Englishman wears in the mud an American prays in.

Just came in from a very wet opening day here in NH(saw one tail going in in the dark and a very good size Bull Moose that seemed to be interested in my doe bleat so I stopped and moved to another area).Although Orange is not required it is highly suggested.It was a very rainy foggy day,although I hunt in an area with pratically no one else I do wear a orange hat.On the news is a report of an accident that happened this morning a bit south of me.here is link to Fish and Game report;

I will be back at it tomorrow and hopefully better results.And yes I will wear a orange hat,except when I am on a stand I cover with a camo face net.

I was shot by an over zealous bird hunter once. I could have been dressed head to toe in day glo orange and he still would have gotten me. He was walking into the field, I was done and walking out. I was even on high ground in front of him. Another guy working left to right off to my left kicked up a bird and it flew in front of me. BANG! BANG! I don't hunt on public ground anymore.

Last year in So Dakota, while in deep catails, I swung on a rising phez, passing right to left. As I started to swing, I saw my friend in orange below the path of the bird and my gun's path. My friend was also swinging on the bird and I made eye contact with him before the bird passed between us. We both held our fire and I continued to swing on the bird to the left. I eventually fired and took the bird. But the orange caught my eye well ahead of the bird and alerted me to hold my fire. I would not likely have hit my friend even if I had shot when the bird was directly between us since it was above our line of sight to each other. But it would have been a big party foul and more to the point, a safety foul. Orange is very visible even to my color deficient eyes. BTW, many men have color blindness, or more commonly, color deficiencies like me that are mild and usually in a particular color spectrum, often green and red. Women are rarely color blind or deficient, explaining why they are always saying "oh, isn't that green field beautiful..."

Here's a sad one guys. A Minnesota High Schooler wearing orange jacket and pants but a camo hat was shot in the head by one of his hunting party. They were talking about charging the shooter with negligence/manslaughter but I don't know if they did. How do you filter the idiots out? I don't know the answer.
According to the news reports the deceased was excited to be spending the weekend hunting with his dad (parents divorced). They also reported that he was well liked, a successful student and enjoyed hunting.
