Its a photo I just took from a gun of mine. Is this what you mean by "the source?"

I'm sorry. Delcour-Dupont or Didiere? Belgian or French?

Researcher attributes this mark to I believe Didiere, (opps, France). That's good enough for me. This mark, often but not always seen with the accompanying words "Best fluid steel," are common on graded NIDs. Other then the court case of blown 10 gauge Magnum barrels, I have not found a file reference to Ithaca's barrel suppliers. They bought in the same market as other US makers of the time.
Do you have a file of the late Joe Vorisek's Shotgun Research Newsletter? There is a lot on the Belgium barrel makers within that work. Joe may have been one of the first modern researchers on the subject.

I got the information that the big D with the three-lobed crown over it was the mark of Didiere barrel works of St Etienne, France, ages ago on a precursor of this site. I have no original source document to back it up. Maybe it is just some more of that "conventional wisdom" like Ansley H. Fox being involved in Baltimore Arms Co., that is wrong!

Thanks again Walt and Dave. The search continues
Google didn't turn up anything for Shotgun Research Newsletter-I'll check with our library, which can access about anything via an interlibrary loan through ASU.
